Pouring Paint down a toilet

We seem to be in the minority here. Everyone else can’t figure out how to rinse off paint brushes without pouring paint down the sink. Oh well…I know that I can’t put partial cans of paint in my trash so I’ll just go and pour them down the sink. I know, I know, you’re just cleaning paint brushes. Not a whole lot of paint there. But now multiply that by a whole lot of painters…Give up…:bigyikes:
I have a possible solution to the problem.

I washed brushes in turpentine when I was younger, and flushed it down the toilet. Later that day, my father took up his place in this ‘library’ to read the paper, and have a cigarette, while tending to necessary matters. After a bit, he dropped his butt in the toilet…we stopped the paint brush thing in the toilet from then on.

One year I mixed all my olde paints to paint the dock before putting it in.

It turned out something like “hot pink”. My nephews did not like the color so they painted it white, with several coats. The neighbors did not like the bright white so they mixed all their olde paints together, and painted the dock with Michigan Greenish. Well the Nephews are UM fans so they repainted the dock, maze blue with three coats. Then somone, stole the dock.

😃 😃 Sounds like my luck. What an horrible day I was having until I read this. Thanks

Hi,
I work in construction and I have wondered about something recently.
When cleaning paint brushes, rollers, buckets and equipment, we flush the waste (with paint in it) down the toilet or a sink… I have recently found out this is illegal (i think). Is doing this a mortal sin?
I would say it’s a venial sin, only because it breaks the law. We must follow the law.

:gopray:
Bless me father, it has been a week since my last confession.

I have rinsed three brushes in the sink and rinsed out two paint holders also in the sink since my last confession.

:signofcross:
Go in peace my child, your sins are forgiven

For your penance, say one Our father, One Hail Mary and put a new coat of paint on the Church entryway.

:rotfl:

Just imagining the lighter side of this thread

Hey all I’m saying is that we shouldn’t purposely break the law.

I didn’t intend to make fun of you, so sorry if I offended.

I could just hear the confession and the practical father’s use of the penitent to get the wall painted. Like the post said. Just funning.

I forgot to wipe out the quote. Its the way I use to post

That’s ok no problem.

**PAINT VERY RARELY GETS “BURNED IN A FURNACE WITH AIR SCRUBBERS” **

The costs ascociated with waste water treatment always impose a ppm or polution:dilution ratio that is cost effective and deamed dosn’t break the cities budget.

The idea of municipal water treatment is more as a safety stop for disaster than it is a sure bet;

I’m sure very few people will have read to the end of this post by now, but for the two who do;

Go to my website (AlliedPainting.com) and go to the Message Board / Questions and answers page, log into the Message board and you should find a better discription than this one posted there shortly, until then:

Try washing in cycles with small amounts of water in reusable containers, (tin foil or plastic is my choice) and a touch of laundry detergent; Saturate your brush with clean water, work up a slurry and spin it out (clasping by the handle the way you would spin a piece of wood to light a fire without flint or matches) into an old pale. Then repeat, I ussually only use detergent once I’m getting down to the nitty-gritty so it’s more concentrated. Considering that I have perhaps $450-$575 (at wholesale prices) in top of the line brushes, and I hardly ever throw them, (just down grade them) I can say that I find it a pretty good system.

p.s. I learned this trick from a Contractor who wrote into Fine Homebuildings Tips and Tricks perhaps five years ago,
I’ll try to find the original article and post it on my site.

p.s.s. For those of you with open minds and a yerning for truth, you might want to take a look at the “Jesus family tomb link on my sites link pages”. I take it as “gospel truth” myself, but it pre-dates the (writing of the) New testament.

All the best Jeremiah Seip 🙂

When it comes to rinsing off brushes can’t one just do it with a hose in the backyard? As long as it’s no where near a water supply like a lake or etc.

That depends on two things:

first, is it water soluble or oil based paint;

second, how deep is the water table and is it separated from the surface by rock or clay?

don’t know if it is illegal, if not it should be, if it is, it is also sinful, degree of gravity depends on how often, how much, how much damage etc. If you do it to my plumbing system I will get after you for sure.
