I went to a Christian bookstore today just to browse and see all the different types of books and Bibles they had. I wasn’t planning on buying anything, just to look. However, I did run across one Bible that struck my eye. It’s called the Poverty & Justice Bible published by the American Bible Society and uses the Contemporary English Version. This edition highlights 2000 verses that talk about poverty and justice which the editors say is an issue close to God’s heart.

Considering that it wasn’t very expensive and I do some volunteer work sometimes with poor migrant children, I thought it would be interesting, I seriously thought about buying it. However, it is a Protestant Bible and I haven’t heard much of the Contemporary English Version, I thought I’d do some research before purchasing it.

What are your thoughts?
What do you think of the Contemporary English Version (CEV)?

And don’t worry, if I do get it, I’ll have my Catholic Bible (Douay or RSV-2CE) right next to me.

Here is the link to the Bible’s website for more info:

This smacks of “Social Justice”. I wouldn’t give it a second notice. The Catholic Bibles, such as Ignatius and Navarre, give us plenty of sound teachings on poverty and justice.

And, before you ask, no I did not take the time to watch the youtube video.

Hmmm… I thought I already answered, but my post is not shown.

Taking a first glance, it would seem that this smacks of “social justice” ministry. I wouldn’t even give it a second glance.

If I want sound teaching on poverty and justice, I would simply go to:
a) Navarre Bible
b) Ignatius 2nd edition
c) Catechism of the Catholic Church

And, before you ask, no I did not look at the youtube video. I refer you back to the “I wouldn’t even give it a second glance” as to the reason I didn’t watch the video.
