The book is written in a manner that makes it seem like it’s not a religous text, you are introduced to metaphysics of sorts, so are led to place this in line with changing how you think about the world around you, just as plato or the rest of the renouned phylosophers did. It also quotes people like Einstein, Henry Ford, Davinci, etc. so you are thinking that it’s on the up and up.
It was only recently I was able to p(name removed by moderator)oint it’s true origins, I knew something was wrong with it after seeing the results “aftermath” as in, you are thinking that you are manifesting all these good things, only to have them ripped away with interest to boot. The initial impact makes you think it’s a good working system, but you eventually learn that it’s something entirely different then what it makes itself out to be.
They even have a reverend that’s wearing a catholic collar to boot who contributes to the writing and DVD and you are thinking with an endorsement like this, there is nothing demonic about it. The underlying theme, what it’s trying to convey is called the Law of Attraction. Where your thoughts are what you bring to you, good or bad, you are attracting all that comes your way, be it poverty or riches, it even goes so far as to say that you can be, do, or receive absolutely anything. It trys to minimalize God, reducing him to a faceless non existant non being and replacing him with what we perceive as the Universe.
My initial bone of contention to begin with and I made it quite clear to everybody I knew that was into it is that the universe is only God’s creation, it isn’t God himself, and to stop thanking the Universe, stop praying to it, stop thinking it’s anything more then his handywork, it is not an entity, yet most could not grasp that concept.
There were things in the book I refused to include, I blotted them out because they were against what I’ve been taught in the word, I’ll show a prime example of one: This is in regards to generating money. They use phrases as you are supposed to think, “I love money and money loves me”, yet in the bible, it clearly states the love of money is the root of all evil.
The phylosophy goes into the ask, believe, receive mentality, where you are not asking God but demanding from what they call the universe, Page 47: “Lisa Nichols, The first step is to ask. Make a command to the univers. Let the universe know what youwant. The universe responds to your thoughts.” They capitolize the word universe as well, it’s a subtle way of making it appear as an entity. Now, if you are asking God for anything as we do as Christians, we do so with a humble request in prayer, and we trust in God to provide or deny based upon his wisdom, yet with this book, we are demanding this to happen and are not making a request from God, we are trying to circumvent him, and we all know the true source of all things outside of God and his grace.
The next step, you are supposed to believe it’s going to happen, they literally tell you even if you have to lie to yourself, you are supposed to continue to do so. This is false belief for it’s based upon a lie and as you change your thought’s to believe in it, what ever comes you way, you are now going to give this LOA credit for, regardless if it works or not.
They get vague on the third element, receiving, because it is short lived. The person gets that car, or that house, only to find they cannot make the payments for it, in my case, I got those sales, but the clients turned out to be ruthless and cut-throat, and in the end, what ever gain I had was stripped away, for they managed to weasle their way past my filters to swindle me in the process.
The main thing that’s so wrong with it, God provides for us what we need, that stomping our feet like spoiled children to get what we want, of which is what this book teaches you to do, what we receive comes from a different source and it’s not tied to God in any way. You are led to believe that you are manipulating the universe to do your bidding, when in fact, there is something else that’s doing it for you and it’s again, not from God. You are dealing with an illusion at that point.
If you think about it, in all due reality, why would God put this system in place and hold back his blessings because you didn’t follow the proper procedure, ie. ask, believe, receive, it would seem like a legalistic, ritualistic stance on his part, yet this book insists upon following this meathod to achieve your goals.
It goes on to explain how everything you have going on around you, you caused to happen, be it good or bad, it’s all your fault. This discounts circumstance, and all things that happen out of random chance and is a crewl way of looking at your life, so, for example, a parent loses a child, some how the parent is to blame for it, I just can’t swallow that reasoning at all.
