Power-point during Mass?

Was the vernacular not enough? Do people now need a powerpoint presentation to understand Mass? What’s next, gathering everyone around the altar and saying the words of consecration along with the priest?

Like I’ve said earlier, my four year old can say part of the Credo in Latin. And yet some people need a PP to follow the Mass in their own languages?

And I thought reading during Mass was not preferred?

“What a mystery.”

Outin,

I apologize for not having read during what part of the Mass the video was played - it is not AS BAD as I assumed, during the homily.

And since you also have assumed incorrectly, we do have pastorals and all else that is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic in the Gnostic Church, including obedience to the Bishop.

Alas, however, the subject at hand is the sacredness of the Holy Mass, it’s prayerfulness and contemplation, and the use of externals that may actually distract from that sanctity and simplicity of spirit.

Again-

While the title may indicate simply PP during Mass, the actual OP wanted to know about what amounts to a pastoral from the bishop- and there is indeed a time indicated by GIRM when this can happen.

And Rome, through the Holy Father, agrees with this? Your church has the same status from Rome as say, the Byzantine? When was the happy day when you unified with Rome?

Alas, however, the subject at hand is the sacredness of the Holy Mass, it’s prayerfulness and contemplation, and the use of externals that may actually distract from that sanctity and simplicity of spirit. No, that’s not quite true. The OP- Original Poster- wanted to know if the diocese can have PP presentations regarding parish consolidations & closures during Mass. GIRM allows for this after the final blessing. Others have derailed the thread into something else.

And I apologize for that, I’m not looking for an argument in the original poster’s thread. If you want to debate or argue, use the private message system.

This is a distinction I didn’t recognize in the thread.

If it is from a bishop under special circumstances, I can see that.

I was under the impression it was a regular “worship aid.” This was due to people praising it as a tool during Mass, which would be too much, and not merely for special functions.

I am in complete agreement with this. I learned the Mass in seven consecutive Sundays, before I knew there was such a thing as a missal. “By hearing comes the Word of God.” 🙂

Hi Newbie2,

Yes a microphone is a worship aid. There are plenty of others. Let me give you some examples:
-Flowers and plants
-Hymnals or song books
-Pews

-Bells
-Missals,Missalettes
-Ambo and lectern
-Lectionary and the Sacramentary
-Book of the Gospels
-Stained glass windows (Early form of PP)
-Baptismal Font
-Kneelers
-Lighting

.
I love your post. I fail to see the theological difference between mass printed missalettes as aids to paying attention to the Mass and a powerpoint. I don’t prefer either, but I have a pretty good attention span. There are MANY learning and processing disabled people in the pews at Mass. Not everyone is as intelligent as the most highly educated and well-read person in the pews. Shoot, not everyone worldwide is even literate and could READ the parts of the Mass! The Catholic Church is UNIVERSAL, it is approachable for everyone from the babies to the elderly, from the geniuses to the imbeciles.

I don’t prefer PPT at Mass. I’m getting older and am growing to love a more traditional Mass. I’m also well-read and highly educated. As a teacher, though, I am aware that there are many people who are not like me.

Here’s my take on this and you can blast me if it so pleases you. Why can’t the Priest make an announcement that there will be a very important message from the Bishop to be shown directly after Mass in the Parish Hall or classroom or whatever space is available? Then let those who truly care attend. Those who don’t care won’t care if it is shown during or after Mass. If they don’t care, they will probably just look at their watches wondering how long the lines will be at Lowe’s during the presentation anyway. I know this seems harsh, but I’m getting kinda frustrated with us as Catholics saying make Mass more convenient for us. Come on, if you have a desire to understand the Faith, whether you are a Craddle Catholic or a first time Mass attendee, it is up to you to put forth the effort. By the nature of God’s infinite love and grace, I will always receive more from the Mass than I am humanly able to put into it regardless of whether I am singing my head off, or silently praying fervently. That said, I think we should not forget that the Mass is for the glory and honor of God. It really doesn’t have to be entertaining or convenient for us.

Echo that.

Why can’t the Priest make an announcement that there will be a very important message from the Bishop to be shown directly after Mass in the Parish Hall or classroom or whatever space is available? Because some priests can’t be trusted with the bishop’s message. They will either not bother to deliver it, or they will twist to their own ends. Then let those who truly care attend. Those who don’t care won’t care if it is shown during or after Mass. If they don’t care, they will probably just look at their watches wondering how long the lines will be at Lowe’s during the presentation anyway. This is for the bishop, who does have the right to put this in according to GIRM after Communion. It is certainly not for the convenience of the faithful

AAAY-MEN, Sistah!! 👍

you missed my point. The priest can show the Bishop’s message if it is in video form, and if you distrust your priests that is another issue altogether. Let’s stop accepting mediocrity. The Bishop does have a right to put it where he wants, but shouldn’t we take more personal responsibily in our own parish? That is why I posted this here and not on the priests or Bishops forum. Don’t let it get to a point where the Bishop has to put it in the Mass. Those who don’t care will not get the information and when they complain later, should be told, you were provided the opportunity to see it, you chose not to.

My point: If the bishop wants PP, he gets PP. If he inherits a bunch of priests he can’t trust, he has to do what he can until he can correct the situation.

As far as the OP goes, his or her bishop is going to run the PP presentations, no matter what anybody says here. It is appropriate in GIRM for the bishop to do so. Finis.

Again, missed my point completly:banghead: , you are right about one thing though, I am finished with this discussion.
