Hi everyone,

I am new to incense and would like to incorporate it into my spiritual life during prayer, meditation etc. And just to create a more uplifting environment at home and in any space I pray. Can anyone provide me your recommendations regarding powerful incense resins that will highly provide that type of spiritual and holy feeling. I have done research on the brand Prinknash Abbey (Basilica). Has anyone tried this particular incense? There is something special about that specific incense like no other. I think its ingredients/recipe is from the Book of Exodus. There is another brand which I don’t recall which is called Temple of Solomon. And there are other brands produced by Benedictine monasteries. Please can anyone share their experiences and also provide me links that sell afforadable incense kits that include biblical resins such as frankincense and are true Catholic online shops. I am new to all these afterall. I hope to hear from you all. Thanks.

Burning holy incense out side of mass? Catholic Living
What is the name of the incense that is burned in mass? And is it OK to burn it at home or other places? Would this be a bad thing to do (spiritually)? I really enjoy the smell of the smoke and I was thinking about getting some to burn while I work at home. Is this a good idea?

In Pittsburgh, Muslims in distinctive outfits sell incense on the street along with their Final Call newspapers.

First, it’s totally unnecessary – let’s be clear about that. Second, in Exodus, the blend of incense for use in the Tabernacle was considered sacred, i.e. dedicated. It was not to be used anywhere else.

In her later years, my mother advised, if I can’t eat it, I don’t buy it.

Third, it’s been shown that burning incense is really not that healthy to breathe. Fourth, we are all challenged to put the focus on God rather than pleasing ourself. And, God doesn’t need incense.

What is incense for, anyway. It is symbolically used to cover up the stench of our sinfulness.

In Exodus, in the wilderness tabernacle, why were the fires of the menorah kept burning? The menorah is in the shape of a tree – a burning bush, where God spoke to Moses. This is a reminder of the duty to God’s word.

Why was there a morning and evening sacrifice at the wilderness temple (and later in Jerusalem)? The altar and the inner holy of holies was dedicated with the blood of sacrificial animals. And, these continual sacrifices were re-dedications of the tabernacle, lest the presence of God – His Shekinah presence – should leave and abandon Israel due to sin and un-holiness.

Incense, show bread, menorah with fire, sacrifices – all were pointing to the sacredness of the mercy seat, where the presence of God was considered to dwell.

These are very sacred and symbolic.

How much do hippies go for now days ? They were a dime a dozen in the 60’s… Ever since Marajuana became legal here in WA state, all our hippie store have closed. No one shows up for work. Sorry… ☮️ Sometimes I can’t help myself.

the website orthodoxincense.com has incense for home use. The Gloria sampler pack is nice. My personal favorites are Ethiopian Frankincense, Evergreen, and Catacombs. A little goes a long way. The monks are very helpful if you have questions.

I tried Prinknash awhile ago, but prefer incense from orthodoxincense.com

Something that not everyone thinks about: incense can be a very powerful odor, just as tobacco smoke is. And that odor can be very off-putting to visitors, as well as any future owners/renters of the property. Depending on how long and how intensly it is used, it can cause damage to walls, ceilings, floors and flooring material.

If this is a house you own, you might want to seriously reconsider using incense in it. If it is your parents house, you might want to sit and have a long chat with them, not just about your desire to use it, but also what responsibility you will take if at some time in the future they decide to sell the house, as it is going to cost money and time to repair.

And if you are renting (or your parents are renting - I don’t know your age), there may be issues; repair being one of them; and possibly, a violation of the rental agreement.

Not trying to be a wet blanket; but this is the real world practical issue that most people don’t stop and think about.
