Practical Efforts at the New Evangelization in the USA and Candada

We hear all this buzz about the New Evangelization, which in itself in principle is a wonderful thing. But how are we going to do it, practically? I believe this will only succeed with a broad, systematic approach, in which the Church both actually is and appears to be fully committed to this.

As many of you may know from my postings in other parts, one of my main ideas why the faith has collapsed in many places following Vatican II is because the image of the Church changed from an authoritarian rock to a dynamic institution that changes without really explaining why and without reassuring people that the Deposit of Faith changed not at all. So while the Church didn’t change Her teachings–and can’t–it looked like it. The image of the Church is an extremely powerful factor, psychologically speaking. I think this problem has been largely fixed on an official level and it is slowly trickling down at its own pace. So I’m not worried much about that, although I think it is important to consider.

Anyway, what are some of your practical ideas as to how the New Evangelization can be successful? Please do not be afraid to comment about anything within Forum rules.

My ideas:
  1. Catechesis needs to improve. The CCC needs to be translated into a set of more concise Catechisms for different age groups and the layout needs to be simple and very clear.
  2. There needs to be more of a focus on moral issues in homilies. Abortion, contraception and so on are bad, but why? What are the practical outcomes of these things?
  3. The Sacrament of Penance needs to be majorly stressed. This is perhaps the most important thing I can think of.
  4. I would say that, within an individual place, and excepting ethnic parishes and missions and parishes exclusively devoted to the EF, and Eastern parishes, liturgy should be standardized to some degree. This is tied to the image thing. I am specifically thinking of chanted Propers in Latin or the vernacular being required at all sung Masses, while of course not proscribing appropriate hymns before or after these chants.
What are your practical ideas?

People need to learn their faith inside and out. I have many friends who are catholic and many of them dont know their faith at all, which is sad. The Catholic Church has beautiful history and it might be time to dust off the good old traditions and bring them back to the front. but thats my two cents 🤷
 
The Eucharist or Mary or both.

Generate a list of ideas, events,or devotions off of these 2 and I think you’ll be fruitful, and have concrete follow plans for offering some solid formation, covering human formation, spiritual formation, doctrinal formation, and apostolic formation, for adults.
