Practical example of holy family with young children

Does anyone know of any real-life, practical examples (in books, of saints, or mere anecdotes, whatever) of young families who became truly holy/saintly with young children in the home? For example, what did they do during the week? What were they involved in or interested in? How devout are they and how do they practice their devotion? I know there are a million answers to this and probably just as many paths to sanctity but I’d be very grateful if anyone could offer to me a real-life example of a family that is/has successfully lived this, especially in recent times, and not just a list of recommended pratices (e.g., “Just pray the rosary and attend Mass as a family”). I need inspiration!

I’ve got a great devotion to Bl Zelie and Louis Martin and have enjoyed reading the story of their family life the autobiography of their daughter, St. Therese. I’d love to find an example like theirs that I might find a little more relatable. For example, Zelie was unable to nurse Therese and so the Little Flower lived with a wet nurse for her first two years, and so I don’t know how Zelie handled toddler tantrums or squirmy children in church. Both parents had full-time businesses out of the home, and they had maids and servants help with the childcare, so they were able to go to early morning daily Mass together. Daily mass would be difficult for me to do unless I brought my toddler and preschooler, no small feat and not terribly conducive to prayer! There are a lot of examples of this. I wonder how I might be able to create a similar atmosphere of holiness for my children without imitating the Martins exactly.

You could read “The Life of Venerable Anne de Guigne”. It’s available for small change.
 
I think it is worth bearing in mind that pre-Depression, it was normal for a family that wasn’t poor to have household help. (You’ll note that the wives of the patriarchs in the Bible and the Proverbs 31 woman all seem to have plenty of servants. To this day, in many areas of the developing world, you either have household help or you are household help.)

So, the idea that a young mother should be able to easily take care of a large young family all by herself and do a spectacular job of it is a historical novelty. Nobody expected it of middle class women 100 years ago.

I think that is worth thinking about when one is setting the bar for oneself.
 
Yes, I have a copy, it’s a pretty good example of how a child can be a saint, and the path one can take to be one at such an age, and how parents can and should strive to have holy children.

Tan has a sample chapter online and it sells for $3 there, and low priced elsewhere too.
 
Just remember that getting everyone up, dressed and fed in the morning without any fatalities is often a sign of Saintly virtue 🙂
