Please tell me what the Bible states about parents who practice the occult and as a result their children and their children are cursed. The generations of children had nothing to do with it why would they be cursed. If so what can a child of such a parent do ??? Help!!! Will someone respond soon. Thank you and God Bless!

Sins of the occult are mortal sins against the first commandment.

But rest assured…

  1. *] Deuteronomy 24:16) - “Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin.”
    *](Ezekiel 18:20) - "The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself
 
I hope Bruno reassured you about what the Bible says.

It is true that the children of those who practice the occult are in greater danger than other children, but it is not God’s doing. Practicing the occult can lead to the presence of demons, and they may act on the children.

Bruno was wrong about it being (automatically) a mortal sin. It is certainly grave matter - but whether the sin is mortal is between the sinner, his/her confessor, and God. I cannot judge whether or not the sinner has full knowledge of the sinfulness, or whether they gave full and free consent.

Better check again about the serious of these type of sins

The *Catechism of the Catholic Church *states, “All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future [cf. Deut. 18:10, Jer. 29:8]. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone” (CCC 2116).
 
Bruno, I certainly didn’t mean to imply that using occult practices is anything other than grave matter!

Grave matter is the first of three requirements that define mortal sin. You and I, with the Catechism and the Bible in hand, can judge whether or not a sin is grave.

I cannot judge whether a grave sin, committed by someone other than myself, is mortal. I cannot see into their mind and heart. I cannot tell if they sinned with full knowledge and full and free consent. That’s between them, their confessor, and the Lord.

Yes, I fall into the temptation to think, “How can so-and-so *not *have full knowledge and *not *have given full and free consent?” I have to remind myself that it’s NOT MY JOB to do so!
