Does anyone know of a list somewhere of everything one would need to observe in order to have a devotion to the five-fold scapular?

Also, would I be required to always wear the scapular if I was invested in all the societies? Must it be worn around the neck/over the shoulders?

Thanks!

Basic Information:

The Five-Fold Scapular consists of five very popular scapulars: the outer scapular: The Red “Passion Scapular”, then the White “Blessed Trinity Scapular”, the Brown “Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Scapular”, the Black “Our Lady of Sorrows Scapular”, and the Blue “The Immaculate Virgin Mary Scapular”

I would do any specific devotions for each (ie, treat the five-fold like five individual scapulars). For example, for the brown, pray the Rosary or Little Office every day, stay chaste according to your station, and always wear the scapular. If you do this, Our Lady will intercede so that you will be released from Purgatory on the Saturday after your death (this is called the Sabbatine Privilege and has been papally decreed).

For the blue, after you cross yourself morning and night say “I will protect myself with the shield of the Immaculate Conception.” There is also a plenary indulgence associated with the blue: meet the usual conditions for a plenary indulgence, wear the blue scapular, and pray an Our Father, Glory Be, and Hail Mary six times each in honor of the Trinity and the Immaculate Conception.

I don’t think is any specialy practices associted with the red (which I also wear with the brown and blue), the black, or the white.

I need to get me a five-fold too.😃

Thank you both very much for the replies.

Do you know if it needs to be worn while sleeping?

Also, is there any particular meaning to protecting myself with the shield of the immaculate conception?

I do. I don’t get too scrupulous about these things. Some people leave them on in the shower, but I do not.

I think it’s a figure of speech. It’s like a shield against temptation. That’s how I see it anyway.

Where did you get this? Isn’t this from the the alleged private revelations in Bayside which have been condemned by the Church?

If the saying is from the alleged revelations which have been condemned, that should answer why the saying is confusing.
