Practicing gay catholics shouldn’t receive communion, so why do they? How do they justify what is written in scripture as lucid as can be about it being wrong and yet somehow find it justifiable that they can receive communion.

…According to the teaching of the Church, men and women with homosexual tendencies ‘must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided’. - Pope Benedict XVI

I don’t think obsessing about sex does the church any favours.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. - John 8:7

People should remember Christ did not teach people to judge others. He lived with sinners and died for them.

A priest has no way of knowing what people do outside of the church. If a person with homosexual tendencies walks up for communion, it is quite possible the person has not engaged in such behaviour since his last confession and is free to receive. The priest can not inquire about behaviour in front of everyone.

Now, if the person is NOT free to receive, that is between the person and God. Come judgement day it will all be settled

Why do heterosexuals having premarital sex continue to receive? Or the married committing adultery? There are a lot of Catholics that shouldn’t receive the Eucharist, but they do. Homosexuals are not sinning to a greater degree than any of the other sinners I mentioned. I’d be careful singling out the practicing homosexuals because your post comes across as their sin is worse than others.

I like you, Rabbitthekitten!
Thanks for the reminder!

Why do you say that Patrice? Because it almost sounds like a sin against Charity?

I don’t understand what you are saying. Sin against charity? I’m actually asking the OP to have a bit more charity for the one group of sinners they’ve chosen to single out. Homosexuals are not sinning any more than heterosexuals having premarital sex. A mortal sin is a mortal sin. Doesn’t matter if you are heterosexual or homosexual, if you’ve committed a mortal sin, you shouldn’t be receiving the Eucharist. But we shouldn’t point our finger at just one type of sinner.

🤷

Sacrilege of Holy Communion is the quickest way to secure eternal damnation.

If people understood how much it wounds Christ and how great of a grace is needed to save ourselves after it, they’d be much more careful.

Ignorance, however, attenuates culpability in the eyes of our merciful Lord. After all, longing to receive the Lord is a great sign of love, a love that has legs - as Padre Pio once said - but not eyes, so that it would run blindly if it weren’t for the eyes of prudence.

Why is that different than anyone else who receives unworthily?

I don’t think that there has ever been a practicing homosexual that has received communion. Therefore, there is no merit in claiming that something that doesn’t exist actually does.

…prove me wrong. 🤷

I don’t see how people who are in a loving relationship hurts anyone else. Whether they are gay, straight or whatever. I think the most important thing is to be in a loving relationship, just sleeping around, I don’t think that is particularly healthy. But how can two people in love be classed as sinful? I know this is not a widespread view in Catholicism, but I just don’t understand how love can be wrong.

It’s irrelevant. He’s not claiming it’s different or worse. He’s making a specific point 🤷
Which doesn’t answer my question. Asking about one specific group, when there are supposedly many other people who do the same, IS indicating that “it’s different or worse.”
I’m just asking why.

If you say “practicing” to mean “having homosexual intercourse without confession” then yes, they shouldn’t be receiving communion, though that is between the sinner and God. But if you merely mean that someone who has homosexual desires and does not fulfill these desires, then you are completely wrong, and should examine the Scripture and church teaching on this matter. The Church is not a homophobic institution, it is a moral one that commands that we refrain from sin, not that we reform our nature to fit someone else’s expectation of us.

How do you know they do?

Have you witnessed gays having sex?

I understand your view, BUT it is not given to us to decide which part/parts of Catholic doctrine we accept and reject. Unless you don’t want to be Catholic, of course.

Please refer to your Cathchism of the Catholic Church for full information about the fallacy of your thinking. Abberant sexual behavior is inherently evil, right up there with all the other mortal sins.

I always thought Christ taught us to be loving and tolerant. Not to judge others. Not to condemn others and to accept everyone. I also don’t think the obsession with some in the church with sex is particularly helpful. I sometimes wish as God grants us all the gift of further enlightenment, some people in the church could keep up.

Ok. So point taken. You don’t believe what the Catholic church teaches.
