Praise of Suffering

I fergot who I heard it from but, Someone had stated on a relgious radio station last Sunday on how certain types of Suffering could be good even praise worthy. That was about as much as I caught as I made it home at that time from church and it was discontinued from lack of Running Car. What does the Catholic Church hold on such a postition and Why? Any good websites or books explaining? Thanks and God bless.

Suffering in itself is only praiseworthy if done on behalf of others.

For instance, the suffering involved (for the parents) in changing a dirty diaper of an infant is praiseworthy as it benefits the infant.

Generally it is how we handle suffering that can be praiseworthy.
