There is a hymn we used to chant when I went to a Ruthenian church: “Praise the Name of the Lord.” It was really upbeat. I think we sang it as an entrance or closing hymn. When I went to an ACROD church later, I did not hear this hymn–the words of the hymn were sung, but the tone was much different.

Does anybody know which hymn I am talking about?
I’m looking for a place online where I can download this hymn (not in MIDI format).

there is one that is sung just before the final blessing that is:

Blessed be the name of the Lord, now and forever,
Blessed be the name of the Lord, now and forever,
Blessed be the name of the Lord, now and forever…

This melody is sung on Holydays and special occasions.

hope this helps…

Thank you, but it’s not that one.

You are probably referring to the Polyeleos, which his properly a hymn of Matins–Pss 134 and 135 (or selected verses).

Quite a number of psalm-hymns can be sung to a wide variety of tones…

Psalm 140, for example, is done routinely to at least 9 different melodies (Sticheral Tone 1-8, plus psalm tone) per the instructions for vespers…
