Hello,

I’m 13 and I have a problem with masturbation…I try not to for 2-3 weeks but temptation takes over me again.

I pray for help and try to resist but still I fall victim to this nasty addiction.

Someone please help me out, pray for me…

I will pray for you now to get over the addiction. And remember to keep taking this problem to Confession so that you can receive God’s grace to help you get through it. Have a great day!

I won’t be of much help; at your age I did it all the time.
At least you know it is wrong.
I will pray for you to over come this.

Praying for your intentions….

Lord Jesus, You have said,
“Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.”
With confidence in Your loving heart
which offers rest to weary souls,
we come to You in this time of special need.
In Your unfailing love,
read the prayer that is written on our hearts,
and grant the grace that we ask of You,
in accordance with Your holy will.
In Your name we pray.
Amen.

Pray often for help to overcome your temptations.

To help me overcome things I mention them every day when praying the rosary, I take them to Jesus regularly. Keep doing this and you will be given the strength.
Give your troubles to Jesus rather than trying to sort them yourself.

I shall pray for you.

God bless you

Graham

Dear friend,I will pray for You,and I have a “cure” also. Always keep Your Rosary with You,and when You feel the urge, take the Rosary in Your hand. I am older then 50,and I still get the urge once in a while,I am divorced, and has been for more years I would like to think, but living without a wife…well. But that helps. And maybe You find some other, and better way. It is a sin, yes, but You are so young my son,and there are so much going on in Your body during thees years,so I can, safely I hope, say that masturbation is a sin we all on this forum have done. Also talk with Your priest. But because You know it is wrong, don’t worry,You will learn to handle it some day,and I am happy that You did write to this forum and asked for prayers, help and advice. You will make, trust me.

I do pray for you. A famous nun once said that the best time to ask a favor of God is during the Eurcharist. So, when you go to Mass and receive Communion, ask Jesus to remove your temptation to masturbate. Keep praying the Rosary, also. Mary is a good friend to run to when you want a particular favor from the Lord. He can’t say NO to her.

The rosary is awesome advice. Please take it.

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum,
benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.
Sancta Maria mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen

dude, this is something Ive never understood. why is it wrong? psychologists only disapprove of it when it becomes an act of shame or if it becomes overly habitual and/or compulsive.

I mean sure, its fine if you do every it every once in a blue moon. but if you do it like 5 or 6 times a day…put it in the holster Wild Bill! heh. 😛

also I dont think any sources like the Bible, Cathechism, etc…I dont remember there being anything like this discussed in there. 🤷

its a normal thing, everyone does it. if this is a sin, then everyone man on the planet is guilty, including the Pope. also, this is just my opinion…but the current one kinda looks like he’d be a creepy stalker type. 😛

Dear friend. Masturbation is a normal thing, but it is a sin. As Catholics we all know that sex belongs to a marriage, and within a marriage we have the right to enjoy sex, keeping in mind what is proper, but it is always also a sort of “praying” to God that He would give us the greatest gift we can ask for,a child. Masturbation leads nowhere. It is a simple “act” to give us sexual plesure. I know that many don’t understand, and that there are people that for one or another reason can’t marry. They are called to a holy life, and should understand that God gives some of us the gift of having children, others the gift of living a holy life. But back to masturbation. It is a sexual act that can’t end giving birth, and sex is above all other reason something that make life. I admit that just about everyone have done this sin,but in Confession Gods grace will forgive us. God bless.

Hi Someone - take courage, this is an extremely difficult sin to crack. The Lord is molding your body to prepare it for marriage someday, unless he calls you to Holy Orders first, of course! In the meantime, try to fight to urge to be alone too much. It is also something that teens crave, but it can lead to temptation as you well know. And yes, the Rosary is great - you can take it to bed with you, you know?

I’m praying now for your strength of conviction, the courage to keep picking yourself up when you fail, and for the purity of your body and soul as you move through those dratted teenage years.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and
blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139
To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety, or other psychological or social factors that can lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.
Note that second paragraph—masturbation does not simply and solely involve the exercise of physical organs. Like any sexual act, it involves the whole human person. As such, masturbation is no different than any other sexual activity outside the self-giving one-flesh bond of marriage.

Not all motivations for sexual activity outside the marriage covenant are the same. These motivations are, as such, value-neutral. We all have sexual inclinations of one kind or another. But the Church clearly teaches that we also have a will designed by God—a will to make loving or hateful choices.

We all have strong sexual inclinations, many of which cause us profound physical and spiritual pain. These longings are part of us and are wound all around and within our personalities. Like Saint Paul’s immortal lament, we know the good that we should do, but feel as if we cannot refrain from doing a thing that we know is wrong.

In my own battle with a sin that I felt offered no options to me (much like the case in which you find yourself), I was reminded of the moving story of Saint Maria Goretti, a 12-year-old peasant girl who was martyred by a young man trying to rape her (an alienated young man who lived in her household and who himself suffered from an addiction to pornography). She resisted him not to save her own purity—but to keep him from going to hell (her own words, as he himself testified). She received 14 mortal stab wounds from him and spent three days in agony on her deathbed, without medicine or water. And she forgave him. On her deathbed, she said that she wanted to be with him in Paradise.

For the first eight years of his imprisonment, her killer was unrepentant. But then he had a dream in which she came to him and handed him, one-by-one, 14 lilies (the symbol of resurrection and purity). After that, he was a model prisoner and a changed man. Upon serving the 28 years of his sentence and being released, he trekked to the door of Saint Maria’s mother and begged her forgiveness. His testimony about Saint Maria’s conduct during her martyrdom was key to her canonization.

I did not know all these details when I begged Saint Maria Goretti for her intercession. All I could remember was that she successfully resisted her attacker and died a martyr. I had tried everything. All I said to her was, simply, “Santa Maria, you know I am exhausted. You know that I dread that this will be my life forever. But you know the power of forgiveness; through your prayers, I am ready to really believe that Jesus forgives me now and always. What happens, will happen. I may sin again in the next minute. But I know I am forgiven. May Christ do with me what He will.”

That was 5-1/2 years ago. I am amazed to tell you that I have been spared that tendency to sin ever since then. Do I still have the inclinations? Oh, yes. But I am in the charge of one of the handmaids of the Virgin Mary. In the presence of Mary and Santa Maria Goretti, I receive Christ’s Body and Blood—both in Mass and spiritually, every minute of the day. I am sustained. I am, minute-by-minute, being transformed.

Unlike the days I spent enthralled by my inclinations, I am now given gifts of the Holy Spirit: vigilance, a regular prayer life, guarding the gateways of my heart and my senses, and faithful participation in the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion. I am being empowered to love Jesus Christ ever more deeply, in ways that I have had no previous conception of. Could I sin tomorrow—or even today? Yes. But that no longer hangs over me like a sword. If I do such a thing, will I have lost something precious? Yes. But Christ pours out even more grace to recover lost things and lost souls.

Yes, we all have powerful sexual longings. Yes, those longings are heartfelt, passionate, and profound. Yes, sometimes we are overcome by the pain—even physical pain—that they cause.

And, yes, we are made to ground those longings in a permanent Union that will fulfill all our longings, all our desires—Union with God.

Be patient with yourself, as God is patient with you. Patience is the physical and spiritual living out of mercy. God calls you to be merciful to yourself and what you are battling in your very body. He does not leave you prone to this struggle to no end. Your suffering in your very body has a redemptive effect for your beloved and so many other souls whom you do not know. Lift up these pains for them.

Having been there, via a particularly pernicious form of masturbation, I judge no one who masturbates. We are working out a mystery in our lives, and God is the only One Who can see us in the properly loving perspective. I surely pray that God has such mercy on you and me! And so teaches the Church, because Christ loves all of us. And, well, WE are the Church.

Thank you all for your help, though I’m afraid temptation has got the better of me again.

I feel ashamed and full of sorrow after committing this sin, but I won’t stop fighting back until it disappears.

Please pray for me, and God please help me overcome this grievous sin…

When I’m having trouble with temptation of any kind, I picture both Jesus and the devil watching me. Do I really want to put that big grin on the devil’s face? Do I really want to add to the scourging of Jesus? The thought of pleasing the creature that has nothing but misery and pain in store for me, is enough incentive to not commit the sin. And, please, Lord, don’t let me the one to add more stripes to your back!

God is love. God loves you so much and he wants to give you the grace to overcome this.

I have also struggled with impurity in my life, and I always have to remind myself that to be pure, we need to stop sin at its very root. This means living in a way that is totally counter-cultural. Things that most people see as “not a big deal” really are a big deal if we’re trying to be pure. We musn’t watch movies or TV shows that degrade sex or listen to music with bad lyrics. We mustn’t entertain any lustful fantasies in our minds. When we are tempted, we need to refuse to give in to the temptation, and ask Jesus to come to our aid!
