Pray for me - I will lose my internet connection tomorrow and have been threatened to have my power cut off

Thank you to all who are praying for me - I have sent an email to Saint Vincent de Paul, and I continue to hold out hope for employment. It had me stymied that God wants me to work, yet hasn’t provided yet. I’d applied for a job as bus driver here in town but didn’t get the job. This past Friday day when I was riding the bus home the glare from the dazzling sunlight on the snow was so bright that I had to close my eyes throughout the trip! I know God is always right, but it was a wonderful reassurance that He isn’t just ignoring me. Thanks again.

I’ll only be able to check my emails once per week (the downtown core of my town provides free wi-fi) for the foreseeable future, but I will keep posting prayers for everyone.
 
O Lord, when we have nothing left EXCEPT our hope in God,
that’s when You can show yourself POWERFUL!

Eternal God, whose mercy is endless and your treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
Look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us,
that in the difficult moments of life
we may not despair nor be despondent
but but with great confidence,
submit ourselves to
your holy will, which is love and mercy itself!

So, pray that you will be able to GLORIFY GOD in coping

Prayer For Work - Soon

Oh Merciful Father,I come to Your presence fully acknowledging that nothing is impossible with You. Lord, I lose heart when I am continually disappointed in my search for a job and when a job, which I like, goes to somebody else. Endless waiting and all the recommendations unavailing shatter my hope. My mind, under such circumstances, tends to degenerate into doubting Your might and questioning Your love. In all such situations, strengthen me to put my trust in You and to be patient in You.If my sins are a stumbling block to this blessing, I plead with You,Father, to forgive them. Lord, I am also very much worried when I realize that I am not in a position to support myself. Turn every sorrow into joy. I know that You will definitely do so. Grant me a good job soon, according to Your will and in the place of Your own choice. Your will is my privilege. I praise You Lord, for hearing my prayer and for Your promise of a job for me soon. Amen.

St. Joseph, we beg you today to intercede for soul dancing. Please, please help soul dancing find a job so as to pay bills, buy groceries, procure clothes, etc. Jesus said in scripture that the Father knows we need all these things- please beg Him to reward souldancing’s trust and confidence that He will provide. St. Teresa of Avila says that we can be sure that you will intercede for us in all our necessities. Do not stop praying and interceding for souldancing until they obtain gainful employment. St. Joseph, pray for us and for all who have recourse to thee!

Churches sometimes will help, like the Catholic Church’s St. Vincent de Paul, which has already been mentioned.

I take it you have already tried utility programs. In NYS, we had a program called HEAP. Each state is different.

Some have free energy-saving audits which, even if they don’t actually give you any discounts or anything, help decrease your power bill.

I once had electric everything…electric heat, hot water, oven, the works. I really got slammed with heating bills during the winter. Once, I had one of those free energy-saving audits. They gave me a free energy-saving, water-saving showerhead. It used about 1/10 of the water, 1/10 of the heat to heat the water.

Some gave me free insulation for the hot water tank.

One, I had my hot water cranked way up, but I was very young, didn’t know. It was heating this all the time, day and night. Just by them turning the heat down, I saved money.

Plus, they told me about budget payments. Instead of getting hit by these huge bills every 2 months, they budgeted it out, the average over the entire year. If they owed me, they paid me the difference at the end of the year.

If I owed them, I paid them, but it was budgeted out evenly, fewer peaks and surprises. I could much better plan. They basically knew how much I used, based on my previous usage.

I also did little things like insulate my windows with plastic. I learned how to become more efficient with energy.

Can you get out to a library? Libraries often allow a certain amount of time for free internet usage. That’s what I did for years before I had my computer.

As to jobs, can you spend time with a sick person? I know I am looking high and low here to find someone to help me. Some people don’t need much care, just someone to spend time with them. They need reliable people.

Often, this kind of care is quite expensive.

There are places like Manpower and temp places that offer temporary jobs, in the meantime. I did that while I was going to college.

Anyway, if not all of these ideas apply to your situation, just ignore those, and leave those for someone else on the forum who would benefit from this information.

What about Medicaid and Food Stamps, etc.? Might be good to speak to a social worker, see what you qualify for.

Goodwill Easter Seals used to have where you could go in and talk to an intake person. If they couldn’t help directly, they knew the community resources.

I see that you are in Canada.

Does your electric company offer any kind of low-income assistance?

Here in the states, we can go for help and get a one-time stipend/credit for help with paying on our electric/gas bills.

The information phone number to call for help is usually listed on your electric bill somewhere. If you don’t use electric but use natural gas, the same applies. If you don’t see it, you can just do a search for this information on-line for your area and you should be able to find it that way.

Also, if you are in an emergency situation like you are, and are due to have your power cut off, I believe that they may be able to help you then, too.

It is worth checking into this program, if you haven’t done that, or don’t know about it.

I will pray for you that your financial situation turns around.

thank you - I was steered by the financial counsellor to appeal my bill with my power company - they do indeed offer a low income reduction, and I’m going to see if it’s retroactive. She also steered me to my Member of Parliament for support on this note. I’ll also check with Social Services to see what other benefits/rebates and reductions are available. I’ve contacted St. Vincent De Paul’s Canada and expect to hear from them this week. The Priest in the Catholic Church in town thought I didn’t need help because I had assets and in his words “you’re resourceful enough to do this on your own”. There are only 2 churches in town - time to move to the other one.

I am so sorry about your priest. Sometimes when we are drowning, people think that we are fine and are managing really well, and they don’t even bother to ask how we are really doing.
