I’m going to visit my church right now, I’m going to stay there in silence and ask for Gods help.

I am a Catholic whilst my girlfriend of 5 months is Atheist.

At first I thought, it wouldn’t be a strain, but I think we masked the issue. We finally spoke about it yesterday (online) and I was meant to see her today, but she says she wants to get her head around things. I am seeing her tomorrow instead.

After talking last night about breaking up, we both woke up and said, we want to make it work somehow. I said we’ll find a way. And I am hoping we shall. She wants me to see her friends on Friday too.

In al honesty, I dont know what to do. I’m going to go in church and sit in silence and pray for as long as I can. Can you all pray for me in this moment. I feel, today is the day I make my decision. I’m going to put God first though, and pray in church and think.

It’s good that you aren’t masking things any more, because it is a real issue, and if you got married and had children it would be even more of an issue, especially if you both have strong differing convictions.
It’s a bit worrying though. You said, “when we woke up” and if that signifies you were in bed together, you’re risking your soul by grave sin, as that shouldn’t be before marriage in obedience to God and the Church, and such sin can weaken you soul. If you are doing that you do need to go to Confession, and resolve not to do anything like that until married.
Anyway, maybe the impression is incorrect and you meant when you woke in your own places.

It’s a hard thing to face though and it is evident that you are feeling it very much.
Yes, I’ll be praying for you and for God’s loving will for your life.

I took that to mean they both “woke up and smelled the coffee type thing,” that they both slept on it but still thought they want to try to make a relationship work even after acknowledging their different beliefs, but if I misunderstood, your point is well made in charity.

Hey, I think you were mistaken, I meant, we both spoke online (on Facebook Chat) and we both went to sleep on it, I was at home and she was at her home too. Sorry for the confusion. Please pray for me everyone, I really love her, I will always put God first, in fact, me putting God first is why I spoke to her about our relationship as a whole. I know we can make it work. I dont care much for myself, I care for any potential children. I cant afford my children to grow away from God. She did say, if we were to have children, she wont appose me bringing them up as Catholics. I pray she keeps to her word. I respect her and her decision, I will pray for her to see the light, but never will I force her, because at the end of the day, this is Gods decision. I love her so much, and I believe God loves her, as he does everybody. I feel there is hope, I just pray for a sign from God showing me that yes, this relationship will work. I made a prayer in the New Year to find a girlfriend who would potentially be my future wife within 3 months. 3 months after, and I met her, everything felt like God planned it all, but I need to pray more…

You should talk to a priest. I’m not saying God isn’t working this way, but I raise a red flag when you say this. How old are you, by the way?

I am 21 years old. I will try and speak to a priest, I’m heading over to the church now to pray in peace, hopefully clear my mind. at the moment and as always, whatever decision I make, I’m putting God first.

My prayer for you is, “God’s will be done.” I admire that you say you always put God first; but I know how hard that can be when His will is very different from yours. I’m not saying that it is. I’m just praying that you will be able to open your heart and hear God’s words to you and follow them. Lord have mercy! God bless you.
