So I’m home alone while my family is on vacation. Saturday night I used the bathroom before bed as I almost always do, then I preceded to bed. When my eyes were shut, I heard what I think was the bathroom door’s knob/latch make its noise again this really freaked me out. The next morning I searched the house (except the attic) for an intruder while trying to scare them by making maniacal laughter and threatening to kill them. Fortunately I did not find anyone. However, this whole event has left me rather paranoid that there’s somebody hiding in the house somewhere. I’ve heard stories about people hiding in homes and it really creeps me out. So just in case there is an aggressive hider I got myself some pepper spray (which I was thinking of getting anyway because it can come in handy anywhere) and a crowbar for self defense. I also got a door stop and rigged some bells over my door as a makeshift alarm so when the door opens (or is attempted to be opened as I’ve been barricading if when I go to bed) I’ll know to grab the pepper spray and crowbar and call the cops.

Yesterday I called the police but they were closed and I had to reach a resident trooper or something. I told him the story and he said to call them if I heard any strange noises. This made me feel better, but I’m still scared. Fortunately tomorrow my family comes home tomorrow and just having them around will help me be at ease.

Please pray for me! I honestly hope nobody is hiding in the house. We always lock our doors so getting in would be hard for a bad guy unless he got through a basement window. Thanks so much! 🙂

Praying that all will be safe and you will be ok until your family comes back.

Mary.

Prayers for you, Melodeonist, but, if you could borrow a friend’s dog you could rest assured that no intruders will go undetected.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless, and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible,
look kindly upon us, and increase your mercy in us,
that in difficult moments, we might not despair nor become despondent,
but with great confidence, submit ourselves to your holy will,
which is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen.

This reminds me of when I first left my family to live alone. It took me about a year before I felt okay living alone. I’d hear the house creak and wonder if someone was there. Now, I’ve lived alone for many years, and I’m used to it. In fact, I’m no longer used to being around people, especially a lot of them at one time! So, being alone can take a while getting used to.

Praying for you.

PRAYER IN HONOUR OF
SAINT LAWRENCE OF BRINDISI

Almighty God,
for the glory of Your Name
and the salvation of souls,
You conferred upon St. Lawrence,
the spirits of counsel and fortitude.
Grant us, in the same Spirit,
to know what we are to do,
and through his prayers,
to do what we have come to know.
We ask this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

Houses make all sorts of noises, especially in the summer, the heat of the day gives way to the cool of the night, wood shrinks and creaks…pipes doe the same, if the ac is running, the drafts can open doors that you thought were closed…don’t sweat it!

Of course, house gremlins, yeah they are real 🙂 Just don’t feed 'em after 11:45 at night, local time.

Heres a prayer for your concerns…

Our Father, Hail Mary’s, Glory Be, Amen

HOME ALONE movie? I will pray for you. A little a paranoia is not a bad thing esp. if you are alone. It is called “situational awareness.” You have my prayers that all is well for you. Peace.

Hey, I’m not sure that you asked for advice, so if this comes across as rude, please know that that was not my intent… I just see that you are having some difficulty coping with this and wanted to chime in.

You are probably not used to handling things on your own, which is what is causing the majority of this anxiety. If you take the time to educate yourself on what to do if it were an emergency and think up some ways how you should and/or would handle the situation, this will help you feel more prepared and thus limit your anxiety.
Code:
For one thing, know that if its your house, YOU know that territory better than some stranger intruding in. Especially if its dark, you'd know your way around most likely, an intruder would not... so use that to your advantage. Its also better to stalk/observe an intruder rather than go looking for one... as this turns the tables on them- you become the predator, thus feel more power, thus less anxiety.

Second- be angry and excited rather than scared and not wanting the situation- that sounds crazy, but it also will lessen your anxiety if you feel excitement instead. It will place you in the right frame of mind rather than keeping your mind in victim state.

One way children learn is through play- and so too adults can learn through playing- So in your mind play think scenarios out, on what you could use to protect yourself and some of the possibilities that could happen. You can also act it out (if you are alone, I would not recommend doing that in front of company.. lol) if you wish during the daytime to test your abilities... BUT don't do this at the time you are feeling worried/scared, this could make your mind wander into full blown panic if you fixate on it when you already don't feel safe.... That's the wrong time. To feel like one has a plan and has practiced it, can make one feel better about facing a scenario like that. Its true, it probably won't ever happen, but it helps to feel prepared, to have a plan (or plans) in order.

And also, don't announce on the internet when you are home alone. I think you are safe here, but still, don't take those chances... do not tell strangers/internet that you are home alone.
And of course its a good idea to call police if you think there is a prowler.

As always, try to keep calm. Yes that’s difficult when you feel alone and in danger, but with God you are never alone. Reach out to God and PRAY in those moments and for The Holy Spirit to key you in on what’s really going on… Also pray for the intruder/crook/burglar -IF there is one- that they repent and leave as they do their sin. You are much less likely to have extreme anxiety if you are praying for them believing/trusting in God’s help. Seriously, pray. Believe in God.

Oh, and its always great to have a dog or cat or rooster (yes, rooster 😛 I jest but I am being serious as they are great) to alert you to things like this.

Hope this helps.

If you honestly thought that there was an intruder in the house, then you wouldn’t have waited until the next morning to search for them after sleeping for the night.

Stop being a baby.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mental Peace

O Lady of Mental Peace,
Mother of Tranquility
and Mother of Hope,
look upon Melodeonist in this time
of weakness and unrest.

Teach her searching heart
to know that God’s Love
for her is unchanging and
unchangeable, and, that
true human love can only
begin and grow by touching
His Love.

Let your gentle Peace -
which this world cannot give
  • be always with her.
And, help her to bring this
    same Peace into the lives
    of others.
Our Lady of Mental Peace,
  • Pray for us!
    Amen.
Jesus, Help Me!

In every need let me come to You with humble trust,
saying:
Jesus, help me!
In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations:
Jesus, help me!
In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!
In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments,
troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!
When others fail me, and Your Grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!
When I throw myself on Your tender Love as Savior:
Jesus, help me!
When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good
come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!
When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!
When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and
I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and short-
comings of every kind:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, help me and never forsake me!

Amen

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death,
Amen

Praying for your safety.

Do you own a dog?

When I used to live alone and came home late after dark, I put my pit bull on a leash
and went room to room with her and even had her check the closets before I went
to bed.

Umm, I don’t think he is being a baby. He is just 19 and has had a sheltered life. He should be pro active for his safety and well being. I don’t think a little paranoia is totally bad. It is also called ‘heightened awareness.’ I will pray for him. It is hard to be a grown up in a mean world. If I could give him any advice I would encourage him to take some self defense classes. Even in my ‘dotage’ I think a measure of self defense would be complimented by prayer. I will pray for him, as we all should. Peace.

This is a grossly inappropriate response to a request for prayers. We are not here to judge people or their prayer requests. I reported your post.

Dear Jesus, I humbly pray that you please send your Holy Spirit to bring peace and calm upon the OP and protect them from all anxiety while they are alone in their home. Please keep them safe from the dangers of real or imagined evils. In Jesus’ Name I ask this. Amen.

Our Lady of Mental Peace, please pray for the OP’s intention.
St. Joseph, Please pray for the OP’s intention.
St. Dymphna, Please pray for the OP’s intention.

Prayer for Those Living Alone
(Melodeonist, perhaps you would like to say this when you are living alone, even temporarily)

I live alone, dear Lord, stay by my side,
In all my daily needs, please be my guide.
Grant me good health, O Lord, for that I pray,
To carry on my work from day to day.
Keep pure my mind, my thoughts, my every deed,
Let me be kind and unselfish in my neighbor’s need.
Spare me from fire, flood, malicious tongues,
From thieves, from fear, and from evil ones.
If sickness or an accident befall,
Then humbly, Lord, I pray You, hear my call.
And when I’m feeling low, or in despair,
Lift up my heart, and help me in my prayer.
I live alone, dear Lord, yet have no fear,
Because I feel Your presence ever near.
Amen.
