Our Bishop announced this Sunday that a neighbouring parish to my own is to be closed down this August. Despite it being one of the area’s most vibrant and well-attended parishes, a recent survey of the parish complex (it was formerly a Franciscan friary, and is still owned by the order) has shown that it is in a severe state of disrepair and needs a vast amount of money spent on repair works, which the Diocese cannot afford, especially as they don’t own it. I’ve been told that many burst out into tears when the announcement was made - the parish will now be divided between four other parishes in different parts of the city.

The Bishop has requested that we keep all concerned in our prayers. Does anyone know a specific prayer for parishes facing closure?

Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou amongst women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus,
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death,
Amen

Glory be to the father, and to the son, and to the holy spirit, as it was in the beginning, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen

Lord God, I pray for your intervention in this matter, for with you all things are possible. I pray that your will be done.

O Duirnuin, I don’t know of any specific prayers for the prevention of parish closures, but I’ll let you know if I find any.

St. Francis please ask Our Lord Jesus Christ to aid this parish (a Franciscan Parish) with a means of keeping its community together. Blessed Virgin, as the Mother of the Church please ask Our Lord to save this community, in Jesus’ Name I pray :crossrc:

Peace and everything good

My church is closing this Sunday, June 27, so I know what you are feeling. Please keep all the parishioners of St. Mary’s in your prayers as well.

Lord help me
to remember
that nothing
is going to happen
to me today
that You and I
together can’t handle.

Amen.
