Simon Rios is in the news again:

The Illegal immigrant from Mexico was found hanged in his cell in the state prison in Pendleton, Indiana. The death was ruled a suicide.

In February 2002, Rios was convicted of driving while intoxicated. For some reason, illegal aliens convicted of an unrelated criminal offense are not automatically deported upon completion of their sentence.

In May of 2003 Rios committed a pretty severe domestic battery against his wife, in the presence of his 8 year old daughter, Lilliana. For some reason I am not smart enough to understand, an illegal alien who is a repeat offender and a violent felon is not automatically deported upon completion of his sentence.

On December 13, 2005 Simon Rios murdered his wife, Ana Casas-Rios, the very same woman he had previously been convicted of battering. He also murdered his 10 year old daughter, Lilliana, the same girl who had witnessed his previous crime. He also murdered their other two children, Katherinne, age 4, and Thannya, who was only 20 months old.

Rios blamed these four murders on depression and guilt, because only five days before, he and a 17 year old accomplice had kidnapped, raped and murdered 10 year old Alejandra Gutierrez, a classmate of his oldest daughter.

Prompt deportation of a violent and repeat criminal could have prevented the murders of a woman and four children. How long should we wait before we enforce immigration laws we already have?
