Pray for the pope's intentions?

What does this mean? I was reading an article on Catholic Answers that said to recieve an indulgence, you must pray for the pope’s intentions. What exactly does this mean? Like do you say an our father and then say “I am praying for the pope’s intentions?” :confused:

The traditional is one Our Father and one Hail Mary. You do not have to SAY anything out loud regarding intention, just have the intention to pray for the Pope’s intentions as you say the prayers. You can silently say in your mind prior to praying “for the intentions of the Holy Father”. That’s all.

Please, help us to believe in the dogmas of the church. Help us to change societies view on life.
Women have been hearing,“It is my body and I can do what I want with it!” Help our hearts realize that a baby is our chance to share in creation. That a baby in its earliest form is a baby. Though incest and rape are despicable and words aren’t adequate to describe rape, the baby is part of the victim. Give us grace, to think as you do, Lord. Let us feel love for the innocent. There is adoption for those who can only see the rapist in the eyes of the child.
The Pope would like us to love life in all its forms. See Jesus in the disabled, the deformed, the embryo, the prisoner. Jesus loves the rapist, the criminal. Help us to see Jesus in these children of God who do bad things. I have a problem with this, Lord and you know that. How holy that Baptist church in the South, who had their prayer group shot to death, was.The first words were “WE FORGIVE HIM”. “FORGIVE THEM, FATHER FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO.”
The heart of Jesus is too big. “CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART, OH LORD.”
The Pope prays for life, peace, and a spirit of giving.
Let us share his prayers and mean them.

This is so simple but often ignored in the american continent. Even when reciting the rosary we should pray for the Pope’s intentions. Every month the Pope issues an intention. You need not know what that intention is. All you have to do is that after normal prayers just say" “For the Pope’s intentions” Then an Our Father, a Hail Mary and a Glory be.
 
While it’s true that we don’t need to know what the Pope’s specific intentions are, it’s not difficult to find out in the Internet Age. 👍 This document from the Diocese of Tulsa lists them for every month in 2016.

The EWTN link Bonnie provided above shows the intentions for 2015 but should be updated at some point, I imagine.
 
Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. By the way, for the Pope’s intentions, can I say 1 decade of the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy since I regularly pray the Chaplet everyday
 
Personally, I don’t see why not. I’ve offered a variety of prayers for the Pope’s intentions, everything from a fifteen-second Grace Before Meals to a presbyteral ordination Mass that lasted almost three hours, as I have always been under the impression any prayer(s) could be offered for these intentions.

Yes.

The one Our Father and one Hail Mary is customary and considered sufficient. But there is no mandated set of prayers. Offering the Chaplet for the intentions of the Holy Father suffices.

I didn’t even notice the year! :o

But yeah - they should be updating & there are other sites with the same info.
