Remember, dearest Jesus, Your loneliness in the Garden when you faced the knowledge of your torture and of Your betrayal by most of your friends and followers, and these, Your best friends only slept, leaving You alone as the deluge of human sin throughout the ages nauseated You as You prepared to atone for it. Remember that human aloneness, in You who alone could redeem humankind, and have deepest compassion on the lonely ones throughout the ages, and in this season of family unity.
Merciful Lord, please embrace our brothers and sisters who have no earthly family—through death, separation, alienation, or displacement. Give them opportunities for a satisfying life. Allow them companionship with others, and lead them by avenues that will give them eternal communion with the family of Heaven.
Deepen our awareness of human fraternity with everyone, so that we may convey to anyone—who may have no close family, nor any particular attachments—that we are brothers and sisters in Christ, and that they are lovable and loved persons.
Loving Jesus, to the unmarried or divorced, please grant grace to live in enjoyment of happy and chaste relationships. Let them fulfill the tasks individually intended for them in prayerful acceptance of Your gospel according to their true vocation.
In periods where family togetherness surrounds them yet not theirs, please let lonely persons find welcome and company. And grant them personal experience of Your love and of their unity with humankind
