Prayer for the Mentally Ill

Loving God,
You are always near to us, especially when we are weak, suffering,
and vulnerable. Reach out to those who experience mental illness,
especially Tom, for whom this prayer is offered. Lift his burdens,
calm his anxiety, and quiet his fears. Surround them with Your
healing presence that he may know that he is not alone. We ask
this through the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes and in the name
of Your Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
 
Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Dear Jesus, I humbly ask in Your name that you restore Tom’s mental health, or if that is not God’s will, at least help him to manage his illness with the right medical and mental health care. Please protect and strengthen Tom and also his loved ones, care givers, and doctors and counselors so they can all best deal with the situation. Allow Tom to feel your love even when his mind is not working correctly due to his illness. Amen.

Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, St. Dymphna and St. Jude, please pray for this intention. Thank you. Amen.

Lord, our God, You graciously chose St. Dymphna as
patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional, and
nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol
of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure,
youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering
such trials –– especially Tom, for whom we pray.

We beg You, Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna
on Tom’s behalf. Grant Tom patience in his sufferings
and resignation to Your Divine will. Please fill him with
hope, and grant him the relief and cure he so desires.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, who suffered
agony in the garden. Amen.
