we are no longer allowed to pray after weekday mass if there is no hym and we have been told it is wrong to pray after mass.

When challenged the priest is said to have responded, the difference between a theologian and a terrorist is you can have discussion with a terrorist.

I have not found any reference in the catechism that prohibits prayer after mass, dont say it aint in there i am not the best reader.

So my question would be how long do i have to wait after mass before i can talk to Him again?

I had been trying to make my whole life a prayer, from this new understanding i am disrespectful to the church.

I am going to ask the Anglicans if they are prohibited or discouraged from prayer and if they say no i will start going there more often and just do one obligatory Sunday mass with the Catholics.

You can probably tell i am wound up sorry, if any one can give me an authoritative source to be better informed i would appropriate it.

Pray well and stay well

peace and blessings

Good question. Ask this priest. Seriously. You’re completely in the right here.

Please do not do this. Nothing should take you away from receiving our Lord in Holy Communion.

“The priest is said to have responded”?? It sounds like you’re hearing this second- or third-hand.

Why not wait until you calm down and then talk with your priest and see what the real situation is.

There is no reason to forbid prayer after mass. Talk to the priest about it. If he still sticks to his guns on this rather strange stance, call the local bishop and tell him whats going on. Meanwhile, just keep praying after mass. What’s the priest going to do? Physically stop you, while hundreds of other people file out of the church or stick around and chat?

There is a small group at our local OF parish that stays for a short period and prays the Leonine prayers after Mass. Granted I only attend about once a month thats because I usually attend the EF elsewhere.

I can tell you that after low mass in the Tridentine rite we would say 3 hail mary’s and St. Michael prayer for the conversion of Russia.

Currently at our mass today we say 1 our father for the next person to die in the parish and 1 hail mary for the next person born in our parish.

I find your priest comments to be disrespectful, unguided, and absolutely absurd.

Considerig the number of saints who have extolled prayers of grattitude after the Mass, I hope that somewhere along the line someone misunderstood what the priest said!

But it might be that he has to leave quickly after the Mass and needs to lock up.

…‘can’t pray after mass’…?

I dunno, that’s hard to believe.

I hope you do some further investigation and lets us know the skinny.

Personally, I think that I would simply stay after mass and pray. If the priest interrupts, tell him you are praying for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. 👍

We pray the Prayer to St. Michael after daily Mass, just before singing a recessional hymn. Preparation before Mass and thanksgiving afterward have always been encouraged by the Church. In fact, the General Instruction (in the United States) says the following:

GIRM 45. "Sacred silence also, as part of the celebration, is to be observed at the designated times. Its nature, however, depends on the moment when it occurs in the different parts of the celebration. For in the Penitential Act and again after the invitation to pray, individuals recollect themselves; whereas after a reading or after the Homily, all meditate briefly on what they have heard; then after Communion, they praise God in their hearts and pray to him.

Even before the celebration itself, it is a praiseworthy practice for silence to be observed in the church, in the sacristy, in the vesting room, and in adjacent areas, so that all may dispose themselves to carry out the sacred celebration in a devout and fitting manner."

No mention is made of silence or prayer after Mass, but one can deduce from the above quotation that it is a laudable practice. It is certainly not forbidden.

ask the priest about this at a time he is free to talk.

is it possible you have a situation common in many parishes where the priest and the sacristan have to leave, turn out the lights and lock up after morning Mass or the last Sunday Mass because they have to be somewhere else, and this makes people who do want to stay after to pray feel rushed and pushed out?

At my home parish 9am daily masses when over are followed up with the St Michael prayer. When that is over twenty or so people will pray the rosary. If you went to the 6:15am then it would be the Morning Prayer of the LOTH, lead by lay faithful. All of these are “private” but open to all. Not lead by a priest.

I thought of this and if it is the case someone can step up and be responsible for locking up and all that implies.

I was wondering too how loud or forceful these group prayers are being led. Is it possible that they make it seem like a requirement?

👍

How long a period of prayer are we talking about here might be important. A quick 5 minute prayer shouldn’t delay locking up, etc, but an hour might be problematic. 🤷

I was wondering about this, too. The priest and sacristan may have responsibilities elsewhere immediately after Mass, and not be able to accomodate people who wish to stay later and pray. Is there a chance that the parish office staff could do the locking up so that people can stay and pray?

Is there an Adoration Chapel in your church building where you could go right after Mass to pray?

And remember, you can always pray. Yes, it’s wonderful to pray in the Presence of the Lord immediately after Mass, but you can also pray out in your car after Mass, or on your walk home from Mass, too.

G-d bless you all so much for your love and support in responding.
I am sorry i am not replying to you all post by post but as i have not posted here for a while i forgot i need to tick the email me of posts thing.

I also thank Our Father for the love in your prayers bringing joy to me over the four winds.

Lock up is no trouble most of us have keys.
The preist is my friend so it is maybe good council that i need to speak with him.
Yes i do have it second hand but the brother that told me is very trustworthy and his words to me would be true. the terrorist liturgist thing would have been to lighten the situation but for br brian it did not answer his question. Being Aussies we make jokes of almost everything but when in positions of responsability like the preist we must be caring to also answer what is asked. IMO any way.

I would like to share the prayer, its very nice for asking for unity and stength as a parish or fellowship community, yes we do pray it aloud.

G-d our Father we thank you for your goodness and the gifts you have given us
both as individuals and as a parish family.
Send your Holy spirit amung us to make us always greatful;
never let us forget that you are the source of all good things
Give us the wisdom to know your will and the courage to be faithful to it always.
You call us to be a family and be instruments of your love in this world
keep us and your whole parish family in your loving care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

The patrons of our two parishes that are now one are both beseeched.
When we becam one parish the new parish was only given a secular name relative to our town. Not the way i would have done it but the two previous PPs and the parish council did so we submit.

I am now spreading the prayer to other parishes and denominations to be well recived. Given that in most of our parishes or fellowships satan is good at creating divisions it is of awsome value.

My prayers have led me away from the concern for the parish and i am now focused on the danger to any one who prohibits people from praying to G-d. Its a biggy for them and i have great concern. A fair thing to say we would like this instead of that but to stop a good thing and have nothingness as its replacment si really bad.

I will write the P council and urge them to reconsider this directive. If G-d makes opportunity i will speak with our PP. Jim would know for sure i am involved in the praying and part of the lleading to do it. he would know i prited the prayer cards and circulated them. Interesting he has not approached me. He would also know while i am gentle i dont roll to the tune of any human unless he speaks for Our G-d or King.

I am a bit bold for G-d and belive me have considered just keep praying it until some one trys to stop me, but i love our PP and my fellow parishoners are very obedient. It would be maybe a bit too challenging for the to be defient. I would do it if i could make every weekday mass but at the moment G-d has me busy at vinnies 4 of the 5 days and until i get some better policies in place i will only be available for one week day. Not real fair to rally troops to battle and not be with them.

I see G-d in this still after mass on sunday i went to the anglican church and prayed and sang with them. a very small parish with no priest and no bishop. they seem to be doing ok despite this. i might be praying with them on week days instead of Catholic mass until our parish move back to the light on this one.

I really thank G-d for your help in clarifying that it is not forbidden to pray after mass.
May Our Father bless and guide you all.

actually i dont know why i never got any emails i am subscribed.

G-d willing i will keep an eye on it.

Bless ay all, pray well and stay well
