Hey everyone. I am seeking prayers and advice for my broken marriage. 2 years ago after a lot of struggle, my wife and I separated. There was a lot of pain brokenness and ugliness. Things seemed hopeless. I filed for divorce. We were both Protestant so it seemed justified to move on. At a couple points during the divorce process my wife sought for us to reconcile but I said no. We both got counseling and our divorce finalized a few months ago. About 3 months before the divorce finalized I started looking into becoming Catholic and I learned what the church teaches about marriage and I have embraced. I have seen growth in both my wife and myself that I now feel like we should try reconciling. I have a lot of guilt about filing the divorce even though almost everyone I know encouraged me to, it just was not right. A separation was in order no doubt but I wish I had been open earlier to reconciling. My wife acts open to the idea, but does not want to take steps forward yet together (ie: Retrovaille).

Please pray that she will see Christ love in me and I can show her my sincerity.

Please pray for Gods peace regardless of where it goes.

Anyone know any good saints for this situation?

My heart goes out to you… Sometimes things happen for a reason.
Pray to the Holy Spirit first, to enlighten her heart, mind and soul about trusting God to allow this reunion. I could name a few saints, but pray to the Holy Spirit first.

Satan hates marriage, and he is doing very well these day with internet, soft porn in almost every TV show we watch. And women today think its okay to have a married man as a boyfriend. Today’s morals suffer greatly. The fact that the two of you are even considering getting back together is a miracle and someone up there is looking out for you.

Our church has several CD’s in the vestibule for borrowing or purchasing (about 2 or 3.00) for couples who dont have the time, babysitters, or courage to attend weekend seminars, and I am sure the Catholic church you are considering to become a member of has them as well. If the two of you listened to the CD’s together, with a bowl of popcorn and a glass of wine, it may be the gentle nudge to get things going. Ask your local priest.

Good luck, God bless
and what God has joined together, let no one put asunder.
Amen

By the way, ( and I am blushing and not proud of this ), but this is my 3rd marriage, and finally a Catholic one.
There are so many ups and downs and its been a fun, terrible, terrific, challenging, wonderful 25 years of forging like steel, but I think we finally got it right this time.

Keep God in your life, talk to Him all day long and ask the Holy Spirit to help you both with wisdom, knowledge, and sight.

OP, it sounds like both of you are on the right track by being open to reconciliation. I just want to mention that maybe some additional separation time is not a bad thing. Both of you could use this to give yourselves some peace and calm to reflect upon your respective thoughts toward the marriage. Use this as a time to ask yourselves what you love about each other, what your faults are, how you can work on them, and how you intend to do things differently in the marriage according to God’s will.

Maybe you can find a prayer that fits your situation here:

I will say a prayer for you.

Pray to St. Rita. catholicnewsagency.com/saint.php?n=464

You might also like to pray the famous prayer of Tobiah and Sarah for God’s mercy and protection (Book of Tobit):

4 When Sarah’s parents left the bedroom and closed the door behind them, Tobiah rose from bed and said to his wife, “My sister, come, let us pray and beg our Lord to grant us mercy and protection.” 5She got up, and they started to pray and beg that they might be protected. He began with these words:

“Blessed are you, O God of our ancestors;
blessed be your name forever and ever!
Let the heavens and all your creation bless you forever.a
6You made Adam, and you made his wife Eve
to be his helper and support;
and from these two the human race has come.
You said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone;
let us make him a helper like himself.’**(“http://www.usccb.org/bible/tobit/8/#17008006-b”)
7Now, not with lust,
but with fidelity I take this kinswoman as my wife.
Send down your mercy on me and on her,
and grant that we may grow old together.
Bless us with children.”
8They said together, “Amen, amen!”
9Then they went to bed for the night.

May God bless you both abundantly with peace, courage, and love. You’re in my prayers.

have you ever heard of the “love dare?” I cant say what it would do for a marriage but I know that out of my five children I adapted to it worked for all five of them…

Angel

Lord, hear this petition in accord with the Father’s will, as it is taught that what God has joined let no man put asunder. Send angels to mend and heal all pains in this situation, and draw these souls close to your Sacred Heart, now and forever, through Our Lady’s intercession. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

This same thing happened to my Parents when in their forties Jon.

They married at a young age and were married Catholics for 20 odd years. Separated for 7or 8 years (both married people whom were not their cup of tea). They separated, obtained divorces from those Spouses and into their 8th year re-united when I had a vehicle accident doing 40kms per hour rolling over an embankment in a mudslide incident (no drinking etc) and Dad appeared (had not seen him for years as his wife never wanted the four of us seeing him) to tow the vehicle away and within a few weeks re-united for 35 years approximately.

These have been the best years of their lives with many Family get togethers and functions including their Grandchildren and Travelling together on trips during the 35 years!

I doubt in honesty that their reunion would not have been possible nor worked, if they had not re-commenced attending Mass and Reconciliation. They have supported their Parishes throughout their lives on top of their own couple of interests they have separately. They always attend community and local events together (they are people’s people and enjoy mixing and meeting new people/nice people) in addition to all friends’ bbqs and celebrations which gives them memories and laughs to share together and Family.

The last time I visited back home, they invited me to that many things; my life was boring in comparison and flat out to keep up with them! Neighbourhood community Christmas parties and BBQs (so many that people of all ages include them in during the year), a Funeral invited to attend (there are always many funerals in their age group of course now), visiting Friends they had when younger, visiting relatives still alive, they throw in a trip 50 minutes either way to visit other communities and farms where they have lived as kids.

To be honest, there are Mum’s Bridge clan (hundreds in this) calling in periodically or phoning. Dad has always participated in his retirement for the disabled kids and adults for years (now he could write a book on some funny things that have happened in the most respectful way of course), the gardening for the Ladies (elderly) and most of the neighbourhood (ladies) all call upon Dad (now 80yrs) if they need anything done! Just quietly Jesus gave Dad the bluest eyes and the most handsome looks a man could ever have; yet he is modest, never been a ladies man and totally unaware at 80years!

I have known other people this has happened to and second time around more love, respect, excitement, fun and hilarious moments than one could ever imagine; all through Jesus if we open up our Hearts to Him for His Love, Wisdom, Guidance and Support while doing the basic things He requests.
