There’s a lot I don’t know about it. I’m not entirely sure how people usually spell it, even. Catholics know when and where it’s done; I guess most Lutherans and Anglicans do it too, right? I’m not sure about the Eastern Orthodox.

Anyway, I’m none of those things and I haven’t ever heard it before.

For awhile (don’t know if this is still happening) I guess there was a prayer at the end for the Holy Roman Emperor or for Emperor Napoleon or some generic prayer for civil authorities. It’s changed quite a bit over time, and I’m not entirely sure of what the status is at this point.

I was wondering…for anyone who will hear the Exultet/Exsultet in about a week, do you expect to hear this prayer at the end? Does this expectation vary by rite? Does it happen differently for Lutherans or Anglicans or Catholics? (Again, not sure if this applies to the Orthodox). Who are the different leaders that sometimes get prayed for?

This might be a stupid question, but if it’s a Catholic parish in the US, does the President of the United States ever get prayed for at this time (specifically, by name)? What are the reasons for/against doing such a thing?
