I posted this query on byzcath already, but thought I’d drop more than one fishing pole to find out if anyone knows of or has any links to a nice prayer special for “Christ the Teacher”…I have made up my own, but am wondering if there are any out there already, so many eastern prayers are so beautiful and poetic, hoping to find one to add to my little prayer book for home…

There’s the general Troparion to Our Lord, which is used on the First Sunday of Great Lent and 16 August (Icon not-made-by-hands)

We venerate Your most pure icon, O Good One,
And ask forgiveness of our sins, O Christ our God.
Of Your good will, You were pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh
To redeem us from bondage to the enemy.
Therefore, with thankfulness, we cry unto You:
You have filled all with joy, O our Savior,
For You have come to save the world.

thanx bpbasilphx,
thats a good one, it was the only one I could find in connection with the icon on line as I looked for it, I am looking for one addressing the Lord’s role as our great Teacher, but I am gonna print that one you posted up to add to my prayer book to, THANK YOU! 😃

As I am a teacher, I would love to find a similar prayer.

Hi E&W, here’s the one I made up, well, really I re-worded and added some lines to this prayer from a catholic children’s First Prayers book, but I have it with my Christ the Teacher icon at home, and generally pray it with my morning prayers:

O source of all Wisdom, Christ the Teacher
You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Teach me to embrace the truths
You have revealed to Your Church.
Fill my soul with Your Grace
that I may love God above all
and my neighbor as myself.
Christ Jesus, friend and Teacher most patient,
bless me and teach me.
O Light of the world, teach me always to follow You
that I should not walk in darkness,
but have forever the Light of Life

you’re welcome to it for whatever it’s worth! 😛

I still haven’t heard from anyone else so I think maybe the previously posted prayer may be the only other “official” Christ the Teacher prayer(?) 🤷

Praise God and may He bless and save Eastern Christianity. I continue to be, literally, amazed at the profound beauty of their prayers and the reverence with which they approach God!!! :blessyou:

Dear Peso73,

This email thread caught my attention as the new Chapel in our Parish School will be named Christ the Teacher Chapel. In my research for prayers for Christ the Teacher I found this thread, and Praise be to God this beautiful prayer you wrote touched my heart so much so, that I showed it to my Pastor and the school Principal. It touched them too. May we use your prayer on prayer cards for the Chapel? I did not want to use it without first asking permission. You must have been truly inspired to convey what is in your heart through th is prayer. I look forward to hearing your response!:blessyou::angel1::

You might also want to consider this traditional Troparion to Christ that is said in the Ukrainian Catholic tradition as one of the introductory prayers said by priests and deacons when entering the Church and venerating the icon of Christ prior to vesting. This troparion is also used on several other feastdays commemorating images of our Savior: We bow before Your most pure image, O kind Lord, and beg pardon for our sins, O Christ our God.Of Your own will You consented to ascend the cross in the fleshto free Your handiwork from enslavement to the enemy. In thanksgiving we cry aloud to You: By coming to save the world, our Savior, You filled all things with joy.
