I would like to know if there is a prayer book that one can buy for Holy Communion for Shut-In’s?

I deliver Holy Communion to the Shut-In’s and would like to have a nice prayer book that has the Holy Communion prayers before Holy Communion. Is there a prayer that one should say after Holy Communion also?

I would really like to do this right.

Your parish should have given you a copy of Communion of the Sick, published by Liturgical Press. (ISBN 0-8146-1368-3) – a little $2.95 (or now, maybe a little more) booklet with the appropriate ritual and concluding prayers. Blessings on your ministry!

All I received was a sheet of paper with the Comunation prayer on it.

I felt that I wanted something more to make it more meaningful for the people.

So I am asking for your help on this.

Am I asking to much to have a nice prayer book that gives more meaning to the sacrament?

I always used the missalette from the pew. The Eucharistic Prayer must be omitted; go directly from the Prayer of the Faithful to the Our Father. As much of the rest as seems useful can be used. I usually only read the Gospel and omitted the other readings. I omitted the Gloria and Creed if I thought it would be too long for a sick person.

As a minimum I used the penitential rite, the Gospel, the Our Father, and prayers right at the time of giving Communion. I usually also read the Communion prayer after Communion to force a quiet moment moment for reflection; then gave a blessing.
