Are there any groups/religious orders that will help you out with some sort of prayer companion? Not a spiritual director, I have one of those. Someone who is aware of an ongoing situation, and putting in real hard time in prayer and penance for the intention? Not even in person.

I’ve written religious orders, and it gets on a list. But I’m hoping to find a person to that is dedicated more strongly.

(I’m fasting/praying like crazy-- many novenas, etc). Just need some help.

I think I would need to know more about what you are praying for. I have a friend that might be interested, but I still need t know more before I give her your request. You could send me a PM if you don’t wish to be public about your intentions. Peace

We are ALL called to love and PRAY for
one another in the Body of Christ, and
esp. here at CAForums! You are right
where you want and ought to be HERE.

Mary Estelle, thank you for your offer, but I don’t think I want to do this through a 3rd party.

A religious community would probably pray for you in unison and the Superior would also wish to know more; for instance if they were praying for something frivolous, a great need or even something less than appropriate. It is also unlikely that you would be assigned your own private prayer companion. A group would be of simular disposition. As I said, I have a friend who has a page called “Prayer Pilgrim,” but again she is more apt to prayer for others in a collect, unison manner. So, I guess I will pray for you the best I can. Peace and prayers.

I’ve already emailed 70 religious orders with a simple note on the prayer intention.

I’m looking for the prayer companion that would know details and I’d keep posted as things change, as I stated in the op.

Might it be that some orders have arrangements whereby you would be expected to make a donation in exchange for that kind of dedicated prayer support? Sort of like a mass offering. I have a very vague memory that I’ve read about arrangements like that in times past, though I could be wrong.

Otherwise, does it have to be a member of a religious order? If not, perhaps you could find a prayer companion who has a similar need, and both put in dedicated prayer time for the intentions of the other? That kind of companion you might find either through your own network or via CAF.

In the meantime, I will say a prayer for your intentions just now. God bless you.

Have you check with your or neighboring parishes? Our church and neighboring churches have such groups. Good luck!

It does not have to be a religious order (I also asked about “groups” in my op.

The problem that occurs to me is that you are basically asking for a companion in prayers. The groups and religious orders are no doubt praying for your intentions in unison. What you seem to asking for is kind of pen pal who prays for you and with you. There is nothing wrong with that and I hope you find someone that can be your prayer companion. Peace and prayers. MB

Does your parish have a Stephen Ministry?

Several parishes in our area have done this, as well as some non-Catholic communities, and based on your OP I think it might be similar to what you are looking for. More peer to peer, and less director/directed.

No, I’m not looking for a “pen pal”

If you haven’t already, you might try the Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary in Summit, NJ:

The reason I thought of them is because I just read an article about them recently:
On a recent summer morning, the sisters stood in their chapel and sang the daytime prayer in high, clear voices. Dominican monasteries are essentially engines of prayer; singing, which the nuns do seven times a day, is a deeper, fuller way of praying, Sister Mary Catharine said, “because we are using our whole person.”
Outside the choir door, a bulletin board was layered with a collage of cards, printed emails and letters, flags of hope and despair, asking the sisters for an intercession.
“We get them from all over the world every week,” said Sister Mary Catharine. “We have regulars. If you don’t hear from someone, you notice and worry.”

Could be worth a try? 🙂
