Prayer for a safe and successful Medical Mission

Some of my fellow parishioners are embarking on their annual Medical Mission to a third world country.

My friends have asked for support on this mission in April. The most crucial support that we can give will only take a few minutes. Please pray for them … for their safety … for direction and guidance for the mission team … and for the best outcomes for the people they see and treat.

The group is four doctors, five nurses and some translators. They pay all their own expenses and pay for all the medical supplies. They will treat 1000 patients.

Their site is in the mountains, six hours from the capital.

And there is no other source of medical care.

And so, please pray for the success of their mission and for the safe return.

I’m not mentioning the name of the country; it is a dangerous place. Or the dates of their departure and expected return.

And … we need to find a way to obtain financial support from private sources … it would be unreasonable and inappropriate to include an appeal in this forum for people I personally know but who do not have “public vetting”. Over the years, I have learned that there are many such private missions, being totally funded by the individuals involved. With no bureaucracy, with no government funding, with no paperwork for grant applications.

So we need to pray to find a way … maybe someone has an idea of a non-bureaucratic way of vetting. These friends of mine don’t even have a Web site. They just take time off from work and go and care for the poor without any outside support and without anyone on the outside even noting it.

So, please take a minute and pray for them.

Lord, you told us that whatever we do for the least of our brothers, we do for You. We ask You now to help us serve You better. Your missionaries are champing at the bit to do Your will. If You would please give them a sign and bless them with the discernment to recognise it when they receive it, we are forever in Your debt.

Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

What a blessing this group of people are! I will be praying for them and for those whom they treat. I will also pray for their safety and for funds to become available to support their mission. God speed!

This is a posting of thanks and appreciation for all the prayers.

My friends returned home safely.

They said that this was the first time that they had ever asked for outside prayers in the five years that they have been performing these medical missions.

Well … it turned out that they really needed the extra prayers this time. It was only through the Grace of God that they survived.

There was some “unrest” and they drove into a rebel roadblock/ambush just as some government troops arrived to clear the road. My friends were in the crossfire in a van with windows … no protection at all. Machine gun bullets were flying everywhere. It got worse, but somehow they escaped with no injuries although they got the youknowwhat scared out of them.

So, they are back safe and sound … thanks be to God.
