Prayer for Seminarians

Lord Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest and Chief Shepherd of the flock, send us, according to your promise, pastors after your own heart. You formed your apostles by calling them to your side and inviting them to share your life. In your company at prayer and at the banquet of the Eucharist, mould our seminarians into your likeness, that they may grow daily in holiness, virtue and fidelity for they can only become apostles if they have first been disciples learning at the foot of the Master.

Ever increase in them a sincere and ardent desire to serve you and your people. Give them generosity and perseverance in their studies so they may gain wisdom and competence in guiding souls and building communities. Assist them in their struggles so they may learn to bear their Cross with patience and develop strength of character. Animate their passion in doing the apostolate so that in this school of service and love, they may imbibe a genuine solidarity and concern for the needy and learn to imitate your simplicity of life and humble service.

Make our seminaries true cradles of virtue and learning, where the seeds of priestly vocation can grow and blossom. Bless all formators, teachers, seminary workers, benefactors, the families and friends of seminarians, and all who collaborate in this most important task of forming our future shepherds. May your Holy Spirit, the best formator, always inspire and direct our efforts for your greater glory. Amen.

Enlighten the Bishop in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Director in molding them, and the professors in instructing them.

Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps; so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom and heroes of sacrifice; steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man; apostles of Your glory and sanctifiers of souls.

Amen.

Lord, enable these future priests to have a personality that is honest, and rich in virtue, in the semblance of Jesus Christ. Enable them to be men of God, and like Jesus, men for others.Instill in their hearts a real love for the Divine Word, for the Eucharist and for prayer, for the Church and for the doctrine of salvation that she preserves and faithfully proclaims.
Enable them, finally, in preparation for their future ministry, to be more holy every day. Amen.

PRAYER FOR SEMINARIANS

We praise you, merciful Father, for sending your Son into the world to free us from sin, and enrich us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. To continue his mission he sent his apostles, the bearers of his love, to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples and offer believers new life through Baptism and the Eucharist.

Look kindly, Lord, on the men who train for the priesthood, especially in the mission churches. Inspire them with perseverance and courage so that they may reach their goal of ordination and continue the work of the apostles in today’s world.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
 
Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

Intercede for our seminarians and young religious who are in desperate need of your patronage amid today’s sensual and selfish world. Amen.
 
*** Lord Jesus, once You called the first disciples in order to make them fishers of men. Continue to let resound today Your sweet invitation:

" Come and follow Me."

Grant to young men and women the grace of responding promptly to Your voice. Sustain our Bishops, priests and consecrated souls in their apostolic work. Give perseverance to our seminarians and to all who are fulfilling the ideal of a life of total consecration to Your service. Enkindle in our communities a missionary zeal. Send, Lord, workers into Your fields and do not let mankind be lost because of a lack of pastors, missionaries, and people dedicated to the cause of the Gospel. Mary, Mother of the Church, model of vocations, help us say “yes” to the Lord who calls us to collaborate in the divine design of salvation. Amen. †

We thank you for your many blessings in our lives, and today we especially thank you for all your people who hear your call and respond to the need for loving priests in our Holy Church. Please bless all seminarians and help them in their formation so they will be fully prepared to love and serve You and your people in their ministry. Help them to express their unique gifts in their priesthood, and to guide and shepherd your people with great love. Please bless the efforts of all who pray for vocations and who support our seminarians both spiritually and financially as they make their journey towards the life you have called them to. Please grant the seminarians special graces in the counselling and consoling aspects of their ministry, and help them to spread the Good News with passion and creativity as they feed your lambs. Thank you Lord for each of these blessed seminarians, and help all of us to support them in their development and formation. We pray especially for Fernando this day.
