Prayer for Christopher Hitchens (and other atheists)

Dear brothers and sisters, in this day of Holy Thursday, I ask you that we commune with the saints and angels to pray for the infamous Christopher Hitchens, whom you may or may not have heard about. For those of you who don’t know who he is, Hitchens is a famous atheist and journalist who has written numerous books, essays and articles that oppose religion. One of these is an essay criticising, and even insulting, the Blessed Mother Teresa, which I believe you can find on Wikipedia.

Dear friends, Christ told us to ‘pray for our enemies’, therefore I ask you to pray with me for Christopher Hitchens’ conversion. So that he may repent from all the horrible sins he has committed and see the error of his ways. For I know that God wishes no one to enter hell, and that, even though Hitchens mocks and ridicules the existence of God, The Lord still loves him just as He loves all of us.

*Holy Father, You have created every single creature, and you have loved every one of them. I know that You do not wish to see sinners suffer, but repent and return to You through Your Son, Christ. For a shepherd abandons his flock to search for the missing lamb out of love, You too, Father, desire that the lost lamb return to you.

Holy Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth, You said that You have come to save sinners. Save Christopher Hitchens, who continually insults You and The Father. Make him repent, oh Christ, through the power of Your Sacrifice. Save him, my Lord, so that he may return to Your Flock.

Holy Spirit of God, help Christopher Hitchens and other atheists who deny Your existence and Love. For no mortal being can make people convert, but it is the Will of God’s Spirit that makes the impossible possible. Descend unto Hitchens, oh Spirit of God, so that he may recognise his grave offences and so that he may repent and preach the Gospel.

of The Son
and The Holy Spirit, Amen.

However, you know that all of this suffering is necessary so that one can understand Christ’s Passion for us, for he too endured horrible tortures. Pray for Christopher Hitchens, o blessed one, and intercede for us to Jesus Our Saviour. Amen.*

Lord, I pray for the conversion/salvation of Mr. Hitchens. Please help him to recognize the error of his ways and help him to change his way of thinking. Put someone in his life to influence him for the better and convict him of all his sins by the power of your Holy Spirit. Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer.
 
Heavenly Father, I humbly pray that You reveal Yourself to Christopher Hitchens so that he will be spared. “Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.”
