Greetings
I’m pondering the idea of prayer for the dead in light of Jesus’s statement (Mat 8:22) to “…let the dead bury the dead…” Can we who live provide any assistance through prayer to those who have died? Can we pray for those who may have died under terrible circumstances or make a request to God for forgiveness towards a deceased person who was not able to reconcile an error during his/her lifetime, or do we the living have no influence on the fate of the deceased? Seems like God would consider the petition (prayer) on behalf of the deceased, essentially the generation of grace for the deceased. Thanks to those who can add clarifying thoughts to this question.

Dear friend, for others’ (name removed by moderator)ut and opinions you might like to post this question in a forum under Catholic Living! Here in Prayer Intentions our goal is to pray…and sometimes it is for the dead. Incidentally, Jesus’ word concerned commitment, not a disrespect for the dead. Good luck with replies in the appropriate Forum.

But since you’re here! 🙂
I ask the Holy Spirit to bless you and guide your in your search for divine truth. I ask Jesus to accompany and embrace you through life and that you truly love God, and others as yourself.
And I ask God’s extraordinary mercy on all the deceased of your family and friends, and some day, you. God grant you peace and happiness. Trishie

Prayer, by the way, isn’t bound by time because God isn’t bound by time.Whether we prau before someone dies or afterwards, the prayer is there for the person’s soul. Bless you!

In any case, I’m going to put a prayer here specifically for the deceased. Maybe we can begin a prayer thread here for just that purpose. I know I have many deceased relatives who can use all of our prayers. Let me be the first to put in a prayer on their behalf and all the deceased members of all of our families.

Eternal Father, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Amen :byzsoc:
