I recently sold a house I purchased (for my daughter, actually, spending $50,000 more than I needed to in 2003). After her death in 2011, I was unable to live in it. I moved. I consecrated the house to my Mammon Marie and the Sacred Heart of Jesus on February 28, 2014 when I thoroughly cleaned it with a friend. In three days, it was sold.

I have a “friend” who is in a wheelchair (he is now 55 years old and has been in the wheelchair since his mid 20s). He has approached me for a “loan” a few weeks ago, $100. I did give it to him. He just called and asked me for $40. Do I have money in the bank from the sale of that house? Yes. It is more than I ever expected in my “old age” but it is not mine, it is God’s abundant blessing. It is possible I will outlive that money. My SS income is pitiful. I can’t give money “away” and I can’t allow anyone to think that I am somehow able to pass out $100 bills. I feel so confused here. Please pray for me. I refused him the money, I explained that I just can’t do it. And now I feel guilty.

I need extraordinary grace so I can discern GOD’S WILL with this money. I have never been interested in “things” and “money” so this is not about hanging on to this money. Thank you for your prayers.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Praying for your intentions.

Warning: Money and friends are a dangerous combination. Rather than loaning friends any money of significance, it is better to just give with no expectation of return. It is also appropriate to set boundaries and to offer to share their burdens in prayer. Do not let money destroy any friendships or family. It isn’t worth it and only causes scorn.

God, please help Povero know Your will in regards to his friend.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be…

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.
Amen.

Prayer for Discernment:

Most High, glorious God,
Enlighten the darkness of my heart,
And give me right faith,
Certain hope,
And perfect charity,
Wisdom and understanding,
Lord, that I may carry out
Your holy and true command. Amen.

Peace be with you.

You are correct. I have “forgiven” one “loan” of $100 totally. Just after his request and after I posted this prayer request, I called him. I explained to him that I would very much like to be able to help him financially but I am not in any position to do so. I told him the next time I see him I will “gift” him $20 but that I can’t perceive our friendship as being based upon my past generosity since I do consider him quite a dear friend. He assured me that he understood. I will go from there and see what happens. I’d like to thank all, and especially you for the personal comment, for the prayers.
