I was told recently that since I have a hard time empathizing I wouldn’t be a good counselor, but I could still be a good social worker. I’m also thinking of religious vocations as well. please pray that I find a religious order where I can still be a social worker.

Raymond I guess I kind of understand because my husband often has a hard time empathizing.
However he is amazing when anything practical needs to be done to help others. He’s organized and focused.

I guess you need to assess your skills, and what kind of training you have had, and see how you can use those to give practical help to others.
Living in a religious community could pose problems if you have difficulty empathizing with others, though not impossible.

One possibility could be joining a Lay Order, which are true Orders of the Church. They may be referred to as Secular or Tertiary or Third or Lay. These Orders require study, discernment, a temporary profession, and finally, full profession. There are a range of these Orders, Franciscan, Carmelite, Dominican, and several other, attached to Religious Orders.
In this way you can belong to a Religious Order while also living a practical work life, available freely to help others with real and practical needs in the society around you.

Lord please guide Raymond, who is so willing to live a holy Catholic life, and to serve those in need.

Raymond, I am praying for you to find a position/order which will be compatible with your gifts …

The Knights of Columbus are a good one to join. I myself am joining. 😃
I’m just waiting until the next available Ceremony so I can take the initiation.

tell me, if i were to join kofc, would I be able to suggest things like building a catholic school for needy children?

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and
blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

PATER NOSTER,
qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Ojcze Nasz, któryś jest w niebiesiech,
święć się imię twoje;
przyjdż królestwo twoje,
bądż wola twoja,
jako w niebie tak i na ziemi.
Chleba naszego powszedniego daj nam dzisiaj,
i odpuść nam nasze winy,
jako i my odpuszczamy naszym winowajcom.
I nie wódż nas w pokuszenie,
ale nas zbaw ode złego
Amen.

Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre,
venga tu reyno,
hagase tu voluntad,
asì en la tierra como en el cielo.
Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano,
Y perdónanos nuestras deudas,
asì como nosotros perdonamos á nuestros deudores.
Y no nos metas en tentación,
mas líbranos de mal.
Amén.

Praying that you meet with your diocesan vocations director so he can inform you of any religious orders that have social workers. Amen.
