Our God, please be merciful to those who are suffering as they approach the end of their lives.
Give peace to those who resist and fear death. Help them to settle their affairs wisely, and to say and do what is needful to bless and reassure, or to reconcile, with those who will live after them.
Others may long for the end to their suffering. Frail and in discomfort and pain, they linger, often dependent upon others, with each small task becoming more difficult.
While they may long for the end, which continues to elude them, some may observe sadly, as their relatives grow worn out in caring for them, which adds to their distress.
Be merciful and take them gently home, dear God, when Your Spirit has completed His work in their souls.
And with tender love, comfort their families in their sad loss.
