Asking for prayers to give me continued strength to change once and for all the controlling abusive behavior I have showed towards my wife.

While I have tried (and failed) many times in the past, I ask that the grace of God change my heart permanently. That he make me the person my wife deserves to be with and the father my children need.

I also ask for prayers of wisdom for the counselors who are giving me the insight and tools needed to make these monumental changes.

And lastly pray that as I make these changes in my life that God will heal my broken marriage and give my wife the courage to love and trust again, so that we may live a life God has intended for us from the beginning. Or if its Gods plan to divorce he bless my wife with the life she deserves and give me peace and strength to understand and respect that choice.

Hang in there. Trust in God and keep working with his grace 👍 You are and will remain in my prayers.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death,
Amen.

I would suggest that you speak to a priest or pastor, as they could help you both learn many ways to work out your problems together, through Christ. Having God as the central focus of your relationship will bring about so many profound changes and blessings. You are taking an important step now in just considering the problem, and God will give you strength and direction if you only ask Him. Be conscience of (or avoid) potential problem situations where abuse can take control. Family is precious.

I will pray for you.

Tartini,

Me and my wife were seeking counsel over a year ago. Unfortunately I lost my job (Gota love Michigan) and was unemployed for over a year. We stopped going due to financial reasons (bad idea). In hindsight we should have talked to someone in the church. But at that time I really wasn’t willing to ask God for support or help (thought I could do it on my own) Needless to say that was a huge burden on me and my family. My wife at one point told me I was having a mid-life crisis and didn’t even realize it…😊

It was a perfect storm…two little kids, job loss, financial burdens…you name it we were dealing with it. Combined with my own personal issues and it’s no surprise our relationship was in serious trouble.

Everything came to a head about 3 months ago, when things were said and done that never should have happened. This led her to placing a restraining order on me and filing for divorce. This was my rock bottom, I remember wondering how I could possibly keep going, I didn’t have the strength anymore…I prayed for the first time in a long time for God to help my situation. He answered. 2 weeks after my wife filed for divorce I had 2 job interviews (had only one the entire year). And from those interviews I landed a better job then the one I lost over a year ago.

It was this sign that God was giving me a choice in my life. I could acknowledge my faults and ask him to forgive me and give me strength to change forever. Or I could continue my predictable cycle and continue to hurt those who are closest to me.

It was Easter Sunday that I found myself in the Catholic church praying that God give me the strength and wisdom to change my life for ever:)

I am inquiring about RCIA, have enrolled in an anger management program, resumed sessions with my personal counselor, started to volunteer my time to charities and asked for prayers from people like you. I am confident my life is now on a path God has desired for me for a long time.

My biggest regret is that this all had to come at the cost of most likely losing my wife forever. While she wasn’t a saint at times, I know she did everything she could to try to help me.

If it seems like I’m rambling sorry, but I felt the need to share my story so that you might understand how important and needed your prayers really are.

I have a long way to go, and find it hard to believe God blessed me with a marriage to a loving wife and two beautiful children, just for me to destroy it. Only God knows what my future holds, but as stated before, trust in him and he will give you strength and direction if you ask Him.

So God I hope your listening, because I’m asking…

I understand now. I can relate to your post, as I went through a marriage (my first marriage at 39 year of age, 5 years, no children) with violence involved (on my part mostly due to many factors, especially alcohol) and I left for 6 months to try to get my mind together. Marriage is a complicated affair, and it takes both parties to work at it together. I wrestled with the alcohol and stopped drinking completely (sober now for 5 years now). I remain sober only by the grace of God today, no other help groups or medications are necessary.

I returned but things did not change, but became worse. The violence was not there, but it just seemed we were not communicating properly, no matter what suggestions I made. It seemed that being in the marriage was literally killing me, as I was in the hospital a number of times with very serious nervous problems. These problems started a year after the wedding. Before the wedding, I was so messed up with drinking, depression and anxiety, I really did not know what I was doing. We were not married in the Church, as my wife would not convert. This caused a great deal of problems in the marriage. The Church did not even recognize the union, and I refused to consummate the marriage because of it. She married me anyway, although I believed she understood the situation. This is absolutely unheard of in today’s society, but I knew it was the right thing to do. One can imagine the stress it put on my wife. Her family believed I was insane, or secretly a homosexual. The questions became more disturbing as time went on, as they would not believe what the Church teaches on these matters.

Sometimes it just does not work out, and we have to accept it and go on. We can never know what the future holds, but for me, it was a learning experience.

It would seem that you are doing something to change yourself for the better. This is a positive step in which other positives will follow. You are “putting on the new man” so to speak, and God is working every step of the way with you.

I once asked a priest why God did such a thing as He did to me. The priest quickly answered it was not God, but myself, that did these things. Now that I look back, I failed to ask God properly for guidance and help, but in all truth, my heart was not in my marriage for many reasons I will not get into here. But now I am rambling on…

Be strong and persevere in your path, and never fail to ask God for help. I am very confident that if you do this, you will not fail. God has plans for all of us and often we fail to see the good that always seems to be produced by the bad in our lives. Sometimes we have to bear the storm and sail through. The secret to a great deal of dealing with it is not to have regrets, but thanks to God that He taught us a valuable lesson in the whole affair. Wisdom is gained by recognizing these lessons, and they never end. God Bless you.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

God bless everyone for there prayers of support. They are much appreciated and needed.
Thank you Tartini for sharing some of your story.

Asking for continued prayers of support for my situation.

Yesterday was a tough one, as I’m sure there will be more to follow.

Lord give me the strength to keep making the changes in my life you know are needed. Give me the courage to release my wife from my thoughts and heart, so that if it is in your plan, you will return her to me at the right time. Watch over our children that they will not suffer unnecessarily.

O God, mercy and forgiveness are Yours by nature and by right. Receive my humble petitions. Though I am bound tightly by the chain of my sins, set me free by the power of Your great mercy.

Amen

For your intentions…

Father, I belong to you.
I place myself anew in your hands
and acknowledge you as Master and Lord of my life.
Grant me the gift of a forgiving heart
and cleanse me of any anger,
hostility or revenge.
Heal my hurts and wounds and teach me to rely on your love.
Grant me wisdom of heart
and strengthen me by your grace to move on in faith,
in trust and in love.
Thank you Lrod for you love in my life.
Amen

Quick update:

My wife is still determined to divorce. Based on her behavior / choices since we separated, It’s better we divorce rather than me trying to save a relationship where I am continually blamed for why it failed. Clearly both parties contributed to the marriage failing. I’ve made every attempt to save the relationship, I have nothing left in me to try to fight for something she is so determined to destroy. I have reached a point where for my own well being, need to finally disconnect from her (divorce her in my heart) and start working on a new life without her.

Asking for peoples prayers that God will keep me on the new path I started and bless me with many great opportunities. Also pray that I will have the strength and courage to be a strong, stable father for my children and that the lord will help me find true happiness in my life to come.
