Prayer for Priests

O almighty and eternal God, look upon the face of Thy Christ, and for love of Him who is the eternal High Priest, have mercy on Your priests. Remember, O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their own vocation which is in them by the imposition of the Bishop’s hands. Keep them close to You, lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime calling.

O Jesus, I pray You to help your faithful and fervent priests; for Your unfaithful and lukewarm priests, for Your priests laboring at home and abroad in distant mission fields; for Your tempted priests; for Your lonely and desolate priests; for Your young priests; for Your aged priests and for Your sick priests.

I commend to you the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me, the priests who have given me the precious Body and Blood of Jesus in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed me or helped and encouraged me and all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.

O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart and bless them abundantly both now and in eternity. Amen.

Prayer for Priests

Almighty Father, grant to these servants of Yours the dignity
of the priesthood. Renew within them the Spirit of holiness.
As co-workers with the order of bishops may they be faithful
to the ministry that they receive from You, Lord God, and be
to others a model of right conduct.

May they be faithful in spreading the good news, so that the
words of the Gospel may reach the ends of the earth, and the
family of nations, made one in Christ, may become God’s one,
holy people.

Amen.

But, above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me; the priest who baptized me, the priests who absolved me from my sins: the priests at whose Masses I have assisted and who gave me Your body and blood in Holy Communion; the priests who instructed me or helped me by their encouragement. I pray devoutly for all the priests to who I am indebted in any other way. O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen

O Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us; obtain for us many and holy priests.

Here is a sampling of Prayers I ask you to include in your daily prayers along with this one…

Another Prayer for Priests

Father, we lift Your holy priests up to You. Inspire and strengthen them in their hour of need. Do not abandon them to the evils of this world, but rather support them in their faith. May a full measure of the gifts of Your Holy Spirit be theirs, to enable them to faithfully carry out the work which lies before them. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever.
**Amen! Alleluia!

Prayer for Priests undergoing Persecution

Blessed Jesus, Who sit at Your Father’s right Hand, have mercy upon Your servant priests on earth. We especially pray for those who suffer for the sake of their faith. As they prefer imprisonment and torture to denying You before men, may they store up great treasure in Heaven.

For all who have taken their solemn vows before You, grant them a full measure, packed down and running over, of the gifts of Your Holy Spirit. In particular, Lord Jesus, grant them great fortitude, which will strengthen them against the assaults of this world - a world which hates them because it hated You first.

We ask this in Your Heavenly, Holy and Eternal Name.
**
Amen! Alleluia!**

Another Prayer for Priests

Father, we thank You and we praise Your Holy Name for the servant priests whom You have called to service. Blessed are those hearts who have said “Yes!” to Your call. Graciously strengthen them as they seek singlehandedly to teach, to preach, to counsel, to administer the sacraments, to visit the sick, to bury the deceased, to administer their parishes and to turn back evil.

Lord, the harvest is great, but the workers are few. May their heroic example be a call to young men around this earth to answer You with a resounding “Yes!” when they contemplate their vocation. Sustain Your priests, O loving God, as they are the successors of those who fearlessly defended the faith during times of great tribulation. We ask this through the same Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever.
**
Amen! Alleluia!

Prayer for Priests to receive the Holy Spirit

Lord, call Your Priests to greater holiness so that they might be set apart from this world, as is their calling. Strengthen them to discern Your Will for their vocation and for the work of their hands. Fill them to overflowing with the gifts of Your Holy Spirit, that they might lead the faithful into all truth.

Sharpen their ability to avoid the ever-present attacks of the evil one, that they may pass through his traps unharmed. Graciously strengthen them to proclaim the Gospel with all of their hearts. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
**
Amen! Alleluia!**

Amen.

The important thing isn’t so much which of these prayers we use - It’s that we set aside time each day to pray for our priests.

Praying for priests, and all religious…that they will be good shepherds to their flocks…and that there will be an increase to the vocation of the priesthood. I pray that lay men who hear God’s calling to be a priest, will not turn away from it, but will explore where it might lead for them. Please Lord, give our priests understanding, patience, and strength, as they continue their journey. :gopray:
