Prayer for Release from Alcohol or Drug Addiction

**Prayer for the Release of a Loved One from Alcohol or Drug Addiction Through the Divine Mercy and Blood of Jesus

Lord Jesus, I put myself into Your hands this day. I ask You, with all my heart, to cure the terrible addiction to alcohol (drugs) in (name the person). Create in them an intolerance for alcohol (drugs) that will prevent them ever offending those who love them again. And grant their loved ones the grace to forgive them for all the hurt they have caused. Through the Divine Mercy and blood of Jesus, I also pray that they will be healed of all withdrawal symptoms of this terrible affliction. I sincerely ask this, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Amen! There are some good people locked in the grip of a chronic, progressive and fatal disease. We pray for their release from it and healing for their families.
 
Saint Maximilian Kolbe is patron saint of those with addiction, right?

Do you believe God can heal people from addiction and the physical changes it can create in their brains and bodies? It seems to be cancerous and is often related to such a low self-esteem that the addict doesn’t feel worth the effort of recovery even after they’ve been through detox and rehab.

It is hard for me to understand where God is present in these people’s lives when so many pray for them and they seem to remain unchanged or as broken as they were before.

When talking to many Christians and even Catholics about addiction, it seems that many believe people never fully recover and some don’t even pray for addicts because they think the addict will never choose Christ and it is a futile prayer.

I find it incredibly hard to hear that because we either believe God is who he says he is in the bible or we don’t. How can you call yourself a Christian if you don’t believe God came for all sinners and can heal and restore all people?

It’s almost like a mixed message and as if some Christians are putting limits on God. Why would anyone purposefully not pray for addicts? Isn’t that a sign of small faith?

Sorry to post here years after but I found this and was inspired and encouraged by the prayers as I know how important prayer is in conversion.

As a former heroin addict I agree with you, I was in a very bad place about a year ago, when I got my paycheck, I would have 98% of it gone within the same day, majority went to dope, I only kept a minimal amount for the basics, I attempted suicide once due to withdrawl getting so bad, yet I was praying to God all this time, in desperation usually, but nothing ever came of it, I was only able to get off it because I found a doctor and suboxone program, still take it to this day and probably will for awhile.

So in my case, it was a drug that made it possible for me to get my life under control, I guess one could say God worked in mysterious ways, but maybe he had nothing to do with it too…?? Faith is hard sometimes, especially when you do not see many people getting relief from it.

I started this thread. I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything in QUITE a while!! 🙂 I have a cousin who is suffering from alcohol addiction. I pray that she will overcome her addiction. I never will give up HOPE and FAITH in God that she will succeed. I also pray for everyone in the world who is suffering from an addiction that they also will be able to overcome their addiction and that they will get all the help and support they need. Venerable Matt Talbot was an alcoholic from a very young age. He suffered for years with alcoholism. God helped him and he overcame his addiction and Matt became devout in his Catholic faith. I pray that Venerable Matt Talbot will intercede for my cousin and all those who have an addiction of some kind to overcome and succeed. Here is a link to learn more about this wonderful man:

I wanted to share my struggle with alcohol so that those praying for healing for their loved ones can have confidence.

I struggle with drinking wine, I would drink one bottle a day and never really had many effects from it. I wanted to stop because I hated being controlled by something and I knew it was ruining my health.

I managed to quit for months on end but always went back to the bottle. It would start with a few glasses every few days, but i would fall and start needing one bottle a day again.

I prayed to be released from this demon and I started to have the strangest pressure in my brain after drinking, it was so unpleasant that I couldn’t possible drink everyday. I had to place three or four days between bottles.

They in went to once a week. I didn’t want to give up this last bottle, and I confessed to my priest how much I didn’t want to ask Jesus to cure me, because I liked wine and wanted to keep it.

I drank my bottle of wine that evening and the next morning I rushed and confessed again and promised not to drink for the next few months.

I am at this place now in my journey,

I know with prayers I will stay away from wine because I choose Jesus.

I give myself to him and I can’t it i am drunk.

So God can really make someone intolerant to alcohol so they have no choice but to change.

I prayed for myself (prayers I didn’t want to pray) for deliverance, so I don’t know if that makes a difference.

But prayers to stop addiction do work!
