After the Scotus ruling I was terrified of speaking out against all the celebration going on in my facebook feed. I was afraid of being labeled a bigot, afraid of ruining all my relationships, and most of all, afraid of being hated for Jesus’s sake. I don’t know how to overcome this, and I feel like I’m already condemned and that I’ve betrayed God. I wanted to ask for prayer that God would restore me, and that I would avoid the things that made me so anemic in my faith that I found this worldliness inside of me. I feel like I’ve been lukewarm, and that I haven’t been fervent in spirit. I feel like a failure and I need help to even desire to change.

***Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death
Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen. †

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle,
be our defense against the wickedness and snares
of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray.
And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the
power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other
evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

St. Thérèse of Liseux Prayer From “Story of A Soul”

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Amen. †

Lord, thank you that you are with me right now.
Your love surpasses all fear.
I give you the anxiety I feel.
I surrender all my worries to you.
Clear my mind;
Calm my heart;
Still my Spirit;
Relax my being, that, I may
always glorify you in everything
I write, speak and do.

Thank You always, dear Lord Jesus.

Amen. †

You are not alone on this fact, Praying
Ditto.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And, do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Bdonoho,
You are so not alone. I have watched as more than half my family has changed their profile pictures to be rainbow colored. I have not corrected one of them. When you look at the sheer number of Facebook friends who have rainbowed their profiles, you become acutely aware of just how small a minority we are and its scary.

“Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity [or error]. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” * St. Pope John Paul II*

And if they do come after you:
"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’’ * Matthew 5:10* .

Feeling fear is not sinful.

And refraining from taking actions which will be taken badly is also not sinful. Do you honestly think you could have made a dent in what any of your FB associates think by commmenting or unfriending them? The best thing to do is to pray for them, and over time maybe you’ll find appropriate moments to plant a seed.

Right now, they think they have “won” something. Anything we say will only make them think we are poor “losers,” because they have no understanding of the situation. Now is not the time to react.

Dear God, give me courage,
for perhaps I lack it more than anything else.

I need courage before men against their threats
and against their seductions.

I need courage to bear unkindness,
mockery, contradiction.

I need courage to fight against the devil,
against terrors and troubles, temptations,
attractions, darkness and false lights,
against tears, depression, and above all fear.

I need Your help, dear God.

Strengthen me with Your love and Your grace.

Console me with Your blessed Presence
and grant me the courage to persevere
until I am with You forever in heaven.

Amen.

You’re definitely not alone. This has been a very tough issue for me. I just joined the Church at Easter, prior to joining I was staunchly in support of gay marriage. I have two gay family members and my oldest friend is gay. To not support gay marriage seemed like I was saying- “I don’t want you to have the chance to be happy.” Plus, I felt that on a Constitutional level that people deserved equal protection under the law. And I was pretty public about how I felt.

Then I went through RCIA, got educated on why it’s wrong, and had to change my beliefs. I now do personally believe what the Church teaches- but if publicly state that on my Facebook page I will not only alienate family and likely lose my oldest friend, I will also nearly assuredly be called out as a hypocrite. So I’ve stayed utterly silent.

Cowards-R-Us.

I’ll pray for you, you pray for me?

Hmm, well, I got pretty annoyed at all the misuse of rainbows and posted a bunch of Catholic articles to FB, but I don’t honestly think that anyone read them. One of my friends made a comment that I couldn’t let slide so I very civilly suggested that we treat Christians with the same respect as homosexuals, which only led to my being shouted at and then ignored. So I’m going to go ahead and say that maybe the time to talk is when people are ready to listen.

I think the Third Glorious Mystery of the Rosary might have something to do with this. “The Holy Ghost descends and transforms the timid Apostles into fearless heralds of the Gospel.” So what did the Holy Ghost give the Apostles that allowed them to witness? Maybe it was the fruits of the Holy Ghost–charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control. Maybe those are our weapons in this fight.

When I thought about it, I realized that sin is born from a lack of love. Sinners lack love. If we can give them what they lack, that’s what will bring them to the Church. So maybe we have to be very patient, very charitable, very generous, very gentle, and wait for them to put two and two together.

What a beautiful post.

Collect For the First Martyrs of the Church

O God, who consecrated that abundant first fruits of the Roman Church by the blood of the Martyrs, grant, we pray, that with firm courage we may together draw strength from so great a struggle and ever rejoice at the triumph of faithful love. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

I have tried to write stuff on Facebook, but any time I do, I feel like I’m not sure what to say. Sharing stuff is always impersonal and there was always stuff that I disagreed with when I shared it. I just read about this thing Saint Peter Damien wrote called “The Book of Gommoragh”, and it says that those who are silent commit a graver sin than those who practice the sin of Homosexual sex (I think he might be referring to the Religious Leaders though). I am waiting to hear from my spiritual director, because this has been tormenting me since the ruling happened ( Scrupulosity has something to do with it too).

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
