After reading through several prayer requests posted here, I feel hesitant to write this, because I have been so blessed. My husband and I are both employed and make a decent living. I have three beautiful children, who are happy and healthy. Yet, I ask for more…

My dad had a stroke in July of 2005. My mom recently died of cancer. When she became ill, Dad moved into a nearby Veteran’s Home, as she was unable to continue to care for him. Dad has adjusted well and is not likely to regain what he needs to live independently.

When Mom got sick, she began asking me if I would “take” their house. I said no several times. A couple of months before Mom died, my husband and I decided it might be a good move for several reasons, not the least of which is that my dad built the house and it would be easier on him if we had the house as opposed to selling it to strangers. When I told Mom that I had changed my mind, she was so pleased. It was all she talked about for the next two months and she was anxious to hear all of our plans. It’s funny…she always complained about the house…I didn’t realize it was so important to her.

Anyway, shortly after Mom died, we put our house on the market. The plan here is to sell our house and buy my parent’s house from my dad, thereby giving him $$$ to pay for his care at the Veteran’s Home. My husband is currently working his tail off on remodeling the “new” place (finishing two bedrooms in the unfinished basement, plus updating plumbing and electrical), so the house will be ready when our house sells.

Welllllll, our house has been on the market for 5 months. We’ve had many lookers, but no offers. We live in a small, rural community where the market is not real hot right now…and especially in the Winter! I’m not really worried about selling the house, but I am worried about the time constraints we’ll soon be facing. In January, I’ll be cashing out my dad’s last retirement fund. That will provide about 5-6 months of care. After that, if our house doesn’t sell, I don’t know what we will do.

I am trying to trust God’s timeline, but it is very hard. I feel overwhelmed by all of the loose ends and I pray for a quick, successful sale of our house so we can move on. The longer this drags out, the more I begin to question if this is really what God wants…but then I think Satan must be messing with me.

I know I am so blessed, but would appreciate your prayers for this stressful situation.

In Christ,
Kathy

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God Bless
