I have a close friend that recently suffered great pain due to his fiance ending everything out-of-the-blue. I have been talking nonstop with him, and he recently said that “It’d be better to be dead” and admitted to contemplating suicide. I have prayed, and prayed, but his cross is a bit much to handle. He is Catholic, but has not been able to go to mass for years because he takes care of his elderly relatives. He lost the one thing he feels is his rock, his love, the thing that completes him. I feel really bad and I have prayed. St. Patrick, my patron. St. Anthony, his patron. St. Jude. Blessed Mary. Jesus. I have tried, I have prayed to take on some of his pain to help ease his suffering. He is like a brother to me, and I want his heart to be mended. Thank you all for your prayers. God Bless.

Once, I took upon myself a terrible temptation which one of our students in the house at Warsaw was going through. It was the temptation of suicide. For seven days I suffered; and after the seven days Jesus granted her the grace which was being asked, and then my suffering also ceased. It was a great suffering. I often take upon myself the torments of our students. Jesus permits me to do this, and so do my confessors. (Divine Mercy In My Soul,192)

Will pray for him, try to get him professional help if you can too…

I’ll be praying for him. I know people who have felt similarly… it’s way too common.

Your friend will be in my prayers.***

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us, and increase Your mercy in us, so that in difficult moments we might not despair, nor become despondent, but with great confidence, submit ourselves to Your Holy Will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen

God bless you +

Will pray.:gopray: Was there myself once a long time ago.

I’ve always been comforted by Cardinal Newman’s meditation(Google that, I think you will find all of it) -

"I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons. He has not created me for naught. I shall do good…

Therefore I will trust Him. Whatever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him… If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. He does nothing in vain.
He may make me feel desolate, make my spirit sink, hide my future from me…still he knows what He is about." +

Father if she just got tired of waiting for him, please let her change her mind and find a deeper generosity within by Your grace.

Father, this man’s situation is so deeply painful. He has cared for the sick and helpless as You desire, but now his own pain and helplessness is more profound than he can handle. I ask ou in the name of Your loved Son Jesus to take the overwhelming weight of sadness and hopelessness from his shoulders. Please give him hope and happiness.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

I will be pray for your friend.
Also I wanted to give you this web site for your friend it broadcasts daily Mass as well as Sunday Mass and it is available 24 hours a day. So he could watch it at any time. I use it when I am unable to get transportation to church which happens occasionally because I have a disability. Of course it won’t help him as far as receiving the sacraments but it will at the very least give him an opportunity to attend Mass since he can not go to church. Perhaps that will help him have some hope again and help give him strength to deal with the heavy cross he is carrying.

Praying for your friend! I know what it’s like to be suicidal having major depression myself. I really feel for your friend. He is in my prayers.

God, please help and watch over this friend that is going through such pain. Please help stand beside him and help carry that cross he has over him. Help them realize that life is so precious and help him look at the positive things that are going on in their life. I also pray for the friend who posted this thread. It’s a tough spot being a friend and watching a close friend go through such a hard time. Please give them the strength they need to help their friend.

Amen

I suffer from depression and a few years ago I debated about suicide as well. It was the hardest time in my entire life. . .I dreaded getting up to start the day and just wanted to spend all day in bed.
The one thing that helped me was my friends that never gave up on me. No matter how alone I felt my friends made me feel so important of having them always encouraging me to hang out with them and do something fun. If you can’t get him out then go to him and do something at home like watch a movie.
A phrase that I always keep in mind when things get rough is “This too shall pass” Encourage your friend that one day his wounds will heal and instead of looking at the negative things about his life right now try and talk about the good things that are going on for him. You may feel like you have to always talk when meeting up but trust me, anytime a friend just came over to sit and watch t.v. . .it was a big step for me. Somehow say how suicide is permanent and cannot be taken back. Once it’s done, it’s done.
Now I have come over the mountain I was climbing and I’m glad I never chose to end my life.
I hope some of this helped you. You and your friend are in my prayers.
