To Choose a Vocation

Holy Mother of the wise election,
I pray for your patronage,
amazed at the clarity you had
in discerning and accepting
the words of the divine messenger.

You know how difficult it is
to choose the right path in life,
to discover what you were born for,
since when you make a decision
you put your happiness
in this life
and for all eternity
at risk.

I know I must prudently
and very carefully
search for signs
that will show the right way,
being very aware
that it is not a matter of liking or disliking
but of finding the best path for me.

Precisely that is what it’s all about,
my life.

What is excellent for someone else
may well not be good for me.

I want to choose
without error,
for I am convinced
that this is essential
for my fulfillment
according to God’s plan.

But the noises of the world,
the lack of habit,
the preconceived ideas,
and even the words
of people with good intentions
who see only the surface
without understanding
what I am actually living,
make it difficult to choose correctly
and may incline me dangerously
to a way of life
for which I was not born
and in which I would be out of place.

I know I must act prudently,
listening to opinions,
but without letting them decide for me,
looking always for the divine plan,
without being impressed
by apparent temporary benefit
that perhaps now seems attractive,
nor by what I see as an ideal future,
but discerning realistically
what should lie ahead for me tomorrow
according to my own nature and condition.

O holy Mother of the wise election!
Watch over my steps,
guide me on the right road, and
obtain for me divine help
so that I can freely make a good choice.

On my part, I offer to be as serene as possible,
to avoid momentary infactuations,
to reflect seriously,
to know and assess the different callings
and their conditions,
to seek for the signs
of the road I must travel,
to consult freely with prudent people,
to pray with perseverance,
asking for enlightenment,
and, in general,
to do as much as I can
to cooperate with God’s grace
so as to make a good choice.
Amen.

Thank you for posting this beautiful prayer to Our Lady that says it all!!!👍 👍 👍 …marking it now on my daily “to be done” list to copy and pray at the end of The Rosary each Saturday. Thank you again, very much…the name of the author is not familiar to me, do you know anything about him please?..Barb:)

Yes, this is a very beautiful prayer.

About Luis Fernanado… He is a Peruvian Catholic layman and the founder and superior general of Sodalitium Christianae Vitae. He has also founded Christian Life Movement and other religious associations.

You may read more about him here:

Thank you very much indeed for the links! When I was married (now annuled) my husband and I for quite a few years belonged to the Christian Life Movement and I really grieved when it folded in our diocese anyway (we in the CLM here tried very hard to keep it going, but failed)…it was ‘replaced’ by what we call here “Basic Ecumentcal Communities” (or BEC) although I dont think that they are anywhere near as effective spiritually as the CLM had been - not even remotely, at least in the CLM group I had belonged to in my then parish. I never heard of Luis Fernanado in the years I belonged to CLM - and very sad and a real loss going by the prayer. No internet in those days nor computers, and communications in The Church were not good. I was delighted to see a link to CLM and that it is still alive and functioning elsewhere and really look forward to a peruse of the site. Thank you again…Barb:)
