Prayer for the SOuth African people

Firstly, to my brothers in Christ in South Africa, whatever we see in Africa, whether the many refugees on many street corners, or more often at robots, or circles, no matter how many democracies around us fall, no matter the statements of political persons, and even though Veritas, our Catholic Radio, can now only broadcast via DSTV (satalite TV), we still are not merely representatives of western civilization, but as ther Church, are the essence, which has molded so much of it.

Let us pray for the protection of every truthful voice, of the procurement of justice in our land, despite calls by some for bloodshed, or the anihilation of their political rivals, let us pray for peace, and justice, and love, remembering our citizenship is in heaven, and even now we are the salt of the earth.

We do not have the same concept of complete freedom of speach as in America, so please, if you are praying or commenting, remember to stay within the law in this.

We are praying now for peace, boldness, and holiness, for us and our bishops, as the early apostles did, the boldness to vote as God requires, not as our parents did, the boldness to follow God’s authority, knowing that human courts do not show guilt or innocence in every circumstance, and we must pray for democracy, true, multiparty democracy to strengthen and prevail, so that we may not be governed by what we are told to believe as right, by politicians, but may believe the church, whose stance is always clear, and who has spoken even before now of this crises, in “South Africa on the slide to sin and Ruin”, by our beloved President of the conference of South African Catholic Bishops.

In this, our hope must not be in democracy, which is not absolute, nor in courts or human institions, but in God, our hope, and citizenship, knowing always that it is the result, and manner of our actions, and our heart- that we should always mimic God, in truth, caution and Godliness.

Let us not dispair, in our divided, and violent nation, every season passes, yet it is our integrity to retain our soul, by always acting in truthful justice.

Mary, Mother of the Incarnate Word! In your womb the Son of God became a member of our human family. Look upon the marvellous diversity of peoples who make up this nation. Through your prayers, may South Africans look upon every man and woman as a fellow child of God and a beloved brother or sister!

Mary, Queen of Peace! You gave birth to Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of mankind, whose Cross broke down the walls of sin and division and reconciled peoples of every race, nation and tongue. Look upon the nations of Africa as they seek to leave behind the burdens of the past and build a new future for their citizens. Through your prayers, may every trace of hatred, prejudice and fear give way to the healing power of respect, esteem and love!

Mary, Mother of Hope! You trusted in the fulfilment of God’s promises, even in the darkest hour of your Son’s Passion and Death. Look upon those who waver and fear, or are prey to the temptation of violence. Through your prayers, may the power of Christ’s Resurrection bring joy and strength to all who labour for the dawn of a new day of justice, peace and solidarity!

Mary, Queen of Africa! At the side of your Son in glory you now experience in its fullness the peace of his Kingdom. Through your prayers, may all Africans be one in building a future worthy of the children of this continent. Through your prayers, may the heritage of Africa’s spiritual traditions inspire the pursuit of new and authentically human models of progress and development. May the African Synod serve as an invitation to all Christians, and an encouragement to work side by side for the spread of the Gospel in joyful witness to Christ the Saviour!

To you, Most Holy Mother of God, we lift up our prayer.

I have been self mortifying for our nation and praying for God to forgive our soul of our violence, and the politics of race and pride.
