To anyone reading this fighting the addiction, I have been there.

I had a serious addiction to porn beginning in Grade 8. There was a time when I had all the websites bookmarked on my computer.

I know it’s a very difficult habit to break, since it appeals to physical gratification, but it is possible.

One time when I confessed this sin in Confession, the priest told me to say this prayer AT THE FIRST INSTANT of any dirty thoughts or temptations. AT THE FIRST INSTANT.

“Oh God, I am being tempted to ___________. Grant me the graces you sent me in my last (Confession/Communion) not to do this sin.”

Whenever I would have those temptations, I would say this prayer over and over and over and over again until the temptation went away.

Not only is this a sin that affects the soul, it affects the mind and body. It is a sin that appeals purely to instant physical pleasure and gratification, try finding a hobby that will keep you busy and improve yourself.

Exercise, read, paint, learn a skill, something, anything, to keep you busy. I started going to the gym a lot more and lost 26 lbs.

Limit your time online. I would suggest installing a filter, but sometimes, these filters block websites that are actually quite harmless. If you can’t limit your computer time (ie. you work with computers), use the internet as the wonderful tool it is. Find some old friends, discover something new.

It is not an easy habit to break. But with God, it is possible.
