Prayer of Healing for Victims of Abuse

Praise to you, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
source of all consolation and hope.
By your Son’s dying and rising
He remains our light in every darkness,
our strength in every weakness.

Be the refuge and guardian
of all who suffer from abuse and violence.
Comfort them and send healing
for their wounds of body, soul and spirit.
Rescue them from bitterness and shame
and refresh them with your love.
Heal the brokenness in all victims of abuse
and revive the spirits of all who lament this sin.

Help us to follow Jesus in drawing good from evil, life from death.
Make us one with you in your love for justice
as we deepen our respect
for the dignity of every human life.

Giver of peace,
make us one in celebrating your praise,
both now and forever.

Amen.

O Lord, shower Your mercy and aid upon people suffering
consequences of bad choices born out of unhealed abuse;
Call to repentance and conversion anyone who enabled abuse;
Protect from suspicion those who are worthy of trust;
For victims being abused, strengthen them
with courage and wisdom to know who to turn to for help;
Refresh the faith of those who absorb in their spirit
the shared pain of victims;
Give us all a renewed voice to the message
of forgiveness and new life, brought to perfection on the cross.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ,
as you gazed down from the Cross in Your bitter agony
upon the beloved and faithful Apostle, St. John,
Your anguish was increased
by the desertion of the traitor
and the other Apostles.
In spite of this desertion
Your love embraced them
and all those consecrated men who would forsake You.
We, therefore confidently beseech You now
to rain abundant grace on shepherds who have gone astray.
Where there is present groping uncertainty,
let there be light;
where there is present overshadowing gloom,
let there be joy;
where there is present mounting struggle,
let there be peace.
Guide, O Lord,
the straying shepherds back to the fold,
especially any Father who is being tempted…
and assist them to walk surely and lovingly in Your sight,
for only in union with You
will the shepherd find true light, joy and peace.
Give to all priests inspiration in time of doubt,
patience in time of adversity,
fortitude in time of weakness,
that with Your love ever pressing them on,
they may lead others ever closer to You.

Almighty God & Everlasting Lord,

You are the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. We pray this week for those who have been abused within our churches and the wider communities across our nation.

Have compassion upon all who have suffered the injustice, humiliation and pain of abuse – sexual, physical, emotional, spiritual and all other forms of sinful conduct.

In the midst of their distressing circumstances, give them courage to speak. May your perfect love drive out fear and anxiety. In your mercy, create opportunities for these men, women and children to share their pain, reveal their struggles and expose the hurtful actions of others.

Give grace, sensitivity and wisdom to all who will minister to the victims and survivors of abuse. Strengthen those who have been abused and their carers with the certainty of your love for them. In all things, we ask that your name be glorified and that we – your people – do justice, love kindness and walk humbly before you.

We humbly plead these things in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, who died and rose and now sits at your right hand in glory.
