Although my friend has been a “functioning alcoholic” for the last 10 years, the alcohol is beginning to have an adverse effect on his life and health. If he continues to imbibe at his current rate, I do not see him living past 60. (He is 49 now)

saying prayers for your friend, that his eyes might be open to see the long-term harm drinking may be causing, and that he will take appropriate action.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give him guidance & direction to overcome his remptations. Praying for his health & recovery.

Praying for you and your friend to hit bottom and surrender. Sometimes the most loving thing to do for an alcoholic or the “coalcoholic” is to stop helping. They can then surrender.

Praying for your friend to be able to seek help to overcome this addiction and for you to be able to know how to help him forward.

Memorare

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Until he personally acknowledges that he is an alcoholic and wants to stop drinking there’s nothing you can do for him except PRAY and keep on loving him. Your help in practical terms will come when he goes through the shame, sickness anger and possibly DTs of withdrawal. Use AlAnon for advice. I’ve been where you are now. Will be praying hard.

God bless you both.

I pray for Rosslyn’s friend, that he will humbly
ADMIT that God’s laws of temperance in all
things is RIGHT and repent.

Our Father, who is in heaven,
Your name be held holy,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE ADDICTED

God of mercy, we bless you in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who ministered to all who come to Him. Give your strength to RosslynV’s friend, who is bound by the chains of addiction. Enfold him in your love and restore him to freedom through your grace.

Lord, look with compassion on all those who have lost their health and have broken relationships because of their attachment to the object of their addiction. Restore to them the assurance of your unfailing mercy, and strengthen them in the work of recovery. To those who care for them, grant patient understanding and a love that perseveres.

Lord, in your servant, Venerable Matt Talbot, you have given us a wonderful example of triumph over addiction, of devotion to duty, and of lifelong reverence of the Holy Sacrament. May his life of prayer and penance give this man courage to take up his cross and follow in the footsteps of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Father, we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Power of God,
thrust down to hell satan and all the wicked spirits,
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Remember, O most loving Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my words, O Mother of the Word, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

Prayer for an Addict

May the Venerable Matt Talbot’s triumph over addiction, brings hope to our community and strength to our hearts, and may he intercede for Rosslyn’s friend, who struggles with alcoholism, through Christ Our Lord. Amen."
