I just heard news that an old friend of mine recently died in a car accident. She was only 21 and i knew her in high school, pretty much just a girl i sat next to. She was nice and i guess i consider myself a friend. Now, i don’t mean to pass judgment, b/c i’m far from perfect, but i can’t help but wonder where she is now b/c she had her faults just like the rest of us, only i don’t think she was religious at all. If i hadnt known her and looked at her from an objective point of view, i’d say she probably has gone to hell. I feel terrible judging her like that and I’ve prayed for her soul to be with God.

Now I know that God is ready and willing to answer our prayers and i have no doubt about that…but what if she is in hell…can my prayers save her or is it a case of final judgment and it is was it is?

Probably a lot of us suffer with this sort of pain about people we have loved now deceased. Since we cannot know their final destiny, it is right and proper, good, to pray for their souls on the presupposition that they could be in Purgatory. If a person is in Hell they are beyond redemption and prayer according to our knowledge of Scripture. To be in Hell a person must have clearly chosen it and have stood clearly against God…this is next to impossible for us to know as a surety, since God’s Mercy is Faithful as long as we have life in our bodies.

Blessings and regards…Barb:)
