Hello all, my first post as a longtime reader of these forums.

Wondering if someone can answer a question for me. Today I had confession where I was given penance and said the act of contrition but instead of the full prayer of absolution the priest simply said “I absolve you from your sins.” I don’t recall a confession where I heard this form hearing this instead of the full prayer.

Is this form still valid absolution?

Thanks!

Sam

As long as the words “I absolve you” are there, it is valid. However, omitting “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” is illicit.

Thank you Peter. I wasn’t sure if I had to re-confess. Just thought it was unusual to hear this form and I don’t recall hearing the Trinity invoked.
