I was wondering if it is common or acceptable to use the format from the prayer of the faithful for family prayers.

I was thinking it might be nice to gather up all our intentions for the month and write them out that way so we have something to read from and don’t forget to pray for all the people and intentions we said we would that month.

Does anyone do something like that? Is it acceptable to use outside of Mass or is there something like this recommended for praying for others together in the home?

If you mean like the general intercessions where somebody reads an intercession and everybody says “Lord, hear our prayer” then yes, that’s fine.

Generally, you can say any prayer any time. The handful of prayers laity aren’t supposed to say are those reserved for priests, such as some exorcism prayers and the prayers associated with the priest giving certain sacraments, like the absolution at confession and the consecration of the Eucharist at Mass.

Intercessions are prayed at Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. It is not “free form” so perhaps it is not ideal for your idea of gathering up your intentions, but you could always adapt it, adding family intentions at the end.

I like that too. I think when more of my kids can read I’d prefer to do that. It is so beautiful and adds so much goodness to the day. For now the same responses each day seems more likely to loop in the little ones, but maybe I’m not giving them enough credit.🤔

This is what I do ^
I have a list of prayer intentions that I’ve written up and update periodically (as needed), and it gets attached to the end of the intercessions for Morning/Evening Prayer.
