I know why we pray, but why do we pray for others? God knows everyones heart, and He wants all to be with Him in Heaven. Why then, should we pray for others if God knows what’s best for others? What’s the point?

Scripture gives support to prayer for others. Here are a few instances.
Moses prayed for forgiveness for the Israelites when they turned from God. God therefore reduced the punishment for their idolatory. Abraham prayed for his people. Prior to His death,
Jesus told Peter that He prayed for Peter to be strengthened.
IIt was Jesus who composed the Lord’s Prayer (or Our Father). Jesus taught, “Forgive **us our **trespasses etc. He didn’t say 'forgive me.” He said “forgive us…” so that each time we say the Lord’s Prayer it is not only for ourself, but for others.
“God restored Job’s fortunes because he had prayed for his friends. More than that, God gave him double what he had before.” [Job 42:10]
“Pray for us [the Lord’s servants] especially asking God to show us opportunities for announcing the message and proclaiming the mystery of Christ…pray that I may proclaim it as clearly as I ought.” [Colossians 3:3-4]
“Pray for us…that the Lord’s blessing may spread quickly, and be received with honour…and pray that we may be preserved from the interference of bigoted and evil people.” [2Thessalonians 3:1-2]
Jesus desires community prayer, in addition to private prayer, for He says, “**if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them.” **[Matthew 18:19-20]
“Relent, Lord God! How much longer do we have? Take pity on your servants. Let us wake in the morning filled with Your love, and sing and be happy all our days. Make **our future **as happy as **our past **was sad…Let **your servants **see what You can do for them, let their children see your glory. May the sweetness of the Lord be on us! Make all we do succeed.”
In this last text note that their children were also prayed for.
