Hello guys!
I really need some help with prayer. It seems that I’m actually praying too long and it’s giving me about 6 hours of sleep
I get to sleep at about 10-10:30 as I’m very busy with sports and school. I pray for quite awhile to the point where I get absolutely no sleep. Should I be doing this, or should I make my prayers not as long?

Is a prayer that is longer, better than a short one?
How can I make my prayers shorter with the same meaning?

This is how I pray every night:
Saying thank you to Jesus, God, Saint Mary, All saints and apostles, St.Padre pio, anthony, michael, steven, john, and basically all my family members names. I do that by explaining why I’m thankful.
Next I ask for more faith, and to be closer to God and Jesus. I ask to do good in my basketball, football, and track meets/games and go far in athletics. I then ask for more personal things to be fixed, or happen.
I then pray for my whole family, the souls in heaven hell and purgatory, and all the army soldiers dead and alive. I ask God to pray for them to be closer with god, saints, apostles, mary and jesus, and much more.
I then pray 7-10 our fathers, and 7-10 hail marys and I’m off to sleep.

It’s so lovely that you desire to be closer to God through prayer! 👍 A longer prayer is no better than a short one. Actually, a quick prayer of faith, hope, or love that demonstrates a humble faith in God may be far more powerful than a wordy prayer that brings about pride in our holy words.

Being Catholic means that we don’t have to navigate the life of prayer alone. One way to manage your time is to use the traditional devotions of the Church. I am NOT recommending that you pray #2-4 every night, but rather I am recommending that you choose one form of prayer per night. If you have a moment during the day, say a quick and loving Our Father, or Hail Mary, or even the simple prayer “Jesus, I trust in you!”

Quick prayers of thanksgiving throughout the day are wonderful - “Father, I thank you for the joy of being with my friends.” Prayers of petition can be made throughout the day as well - “Jesus, be the comfort of that girl I saw crying with her friends.”

In other words, don’t think all your communication with God has to be right before bed, and you may find yourself not only with more time for sleep, but also a fuller relationship with God. He loves you so dearly!

God bless you, dear one!

  1. Begin your day with the Morning Offering – that way your whole day is consecrated to God and can be offered for the well-being of your soul and the souls of those you know and love.
  2. Five decades of the Rosary for your family members, the souls in purgatory, etc. Only do five, the ones that are recommended for that day:
Joyful Mysteries on Monday and Saturday
    Luminous Mysteries on Thursday
Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesday and Friday
Glorious Mysteries on Wednesday and Sunday
  3. Chaplet of Divine Mercy
  4. Divine Office (see divineoffice.org to find the day’s prayers). Only pray the section of the Office that is appropriate for that time of day. If you are praying just before bed, the appropriate prayer would be Compline.
Remember that you do not increase the value of your prayers by merely adding more words to them. Also remember, that

Taking a very long time in praying doesn’t mean that it is really required. Even a short period of time in praying will do as long as it came from the heart. Praying is a way of communicating with God and telling him all your problems, worries, doubts and etc. Givng atleast 15 minutes a day before doing anything will make Him happy because we did not forget him as we begin our day.

👍

I have my first cup of tea with Him…
